Crisis Averted!

The sun is shing here in Texas this morning. It was beautiful yesterday as well. Friday and Saturday......not so much. We had a real rain event around here. At least in our neighbor! Our den flooded a few weeks ago and Louis Dean had taken the deck up, hauled out many MANY wheel barrows full of dirt,  leveled the ground and finally put the deck back down! WHEW! He said he would put a drain in after some of the hoopla we have going on is over. Seems he will be be doing that THIS WEEK! Just as the 'hooplas' are beginning!

We were in the den late Saturday afternoon taking a break. The rain was still coming down. We felt like we were snug as a bug in a rug! Everytime I walked from the den to the utility room I rejoiced that the carpet was DRY! Until........I stepped down into the den and it was squishy wet! The water was coming in and FAST! After a brief moment of panic - LD couldn't find his shoes - and he looked at me helplessly and said - "Please help me pull myself together!" In a couple of minutes he was out in the rain digging a trench!

He worked fast and furious!!

We had a lot of standing water!

This was up past my ankle!

Every shovel full of dirt removed emmediately gurgled full of water.

He kept digging until he reached the sidewalk where the water flowed on down the street.

While he was outside digging I was inside sucking up water with my Rainbow.
I got up about a gallon before the water quit coming in and started draining.

By the time Louis Dean was through the carpet inside was simply damp. I drew him a hot bath and gave him a cup of chicken noodle soup to sip on while he was soaking.

Crisis Averted!!!
We are still praising God that it happened while we were in here and could instantly spring into action!

Sunday was spent in recovery mode. Louis Dean baked a big ham and I did laundry and we both rested a good bit! Needless to say, we cancelled plans for our music session and dinner party! They all understood!
There is never a dull moment around here!!

Today we are back in the groove. We have five days before the big Open House/Shower for Amber and Mike's Quads. Lots to do and now a long trench snaking across our front yard to deal with. We do love a challenge!!

Speaking of Amber and Mike.......they enjoyed a lovely weekend getaway!

They did a photo shoot for their maternity pictures. As Amber said, "This may well be my one and only pregnancy!" And you all know that in this family we document EVERYTHING!! Especially something of this magnitude!

This is my handsome HANDSOME son in law who is an awesome guy!
He and Amber make a perfect couple.

He also has an excellent sense of humor!!!

OK!! Look out Monday!!! Here we COME!!!!!!!

  1. Oh my Dear!!!!!!!!

What can I say, but best wishes. This has to be an awful strain on the both of you.

    Gentle hugs,

  2. Oh and that *Quad* take on that beer commercial, is hysterical!!! Love it.

  3. Seems I get it from you - don't ever do anything halfway! I hope yall get the yard and everything fixed okay and it's not a huge pain. Either way, we are just excited to be home in a few days. Love you very much!! (Oh, and please tell LD he has it together! He held down the fort alone for over a week!!)

  4. Oh dear...not again. Hope that the trench and the drain helps to put an end to the water problem. So frustrating for you both I'm sure.

    Cute pictures of the Quadfather.

  5. Too many adventures. Too much hard work. Hope that you do get a drain laid, the trench is certainly started/there.

At my age I am always grateful when I can get a tough job done but then I have to rest for about a day afterwards.

    Take care of your two.

  6. Hope you solve your water issues once and for all! That's no fun. (Coming from someone who knows whereof you speak!)

Have fun with the plans for the quad shower!

  7. What a disaster, Linda! But LD certainly stepped up to the plate, what a guy! My hubs would never be out in the rain digging. But I would definitely be inside sucking it up. We have had problems in our basement in the past. Of course it happens in the one and only room that is carpeted. Unfortunately, too, it happens with both rain and snow!

Love the maternity pictures, I was rolling on the floor laughing! These are great!

Have a good week! Hopefully there is no rain on the agenda for you!

  8. Oh my word! Not flooding again! What do y'all plan to do in the long term to prevent this from happening again? I know he can't possibly go out and dig a trench every time it rains. It was a blessing that y'all were home when it happened. I'm always so afraid of something like that happening while we're gone and it ruining the whole house. That last pic is funny!

  9. I know LD HAD to dig the trench but I do hope he watches his health.Ya'll are such troopers. LOVE love the Quadfather photo's. Can't wait to see the Quadmother photo's LOL. Always fun reading your post. Luann

  10. You poor dear...and you poor Hubby...put what a team you are!!

  11. so glad the crisis is over...I know you are excited about the baby shower...don't work too hard...

  12. So much going on at your place - the planned and the unplanned. Glad you were home from your trip when this happened so you could "team up". . . The "Quad Father", LOL!!

  13. That's the sort of adventure that we all hope we can avoid!
I love the thought of the quad shower - four times the fun!

  14. I love how optimistic and positive you can be even in a bad situation. I must tell you, I love a good challenge too but sheesh, I think that water would get the best of me. I'm glad you all were home too & could stop it before a real crisis took place.

I'm so excited about the Quads party. Can't wait to see everything. I read Amber's blog about her getaway. I'm so happy she was able to get some change of scenery!

Hope your week is wonderful friend :)

  15. Wow, you're right, never a dull moment in your world. LD sure is a quick thinker, he saved the day and deserved that hot cup of soup! And you also are to be commended, you're quick thinking saved the inside which saves tons of work if the water would have saturated the basement.

My what a handsome son-in-law, and with your daughters beauty they will have gorgeous babies!

I hope the rest of your week goes well!

  16. OMGoodness! It was a rain soaked weekend up here as well.

I am so sorry to hear that the water came inside AGAIN! I am amazed at speed that LD dug that trench! What a guy! You were pretty stellar yourself, Linda.
I am praying that the rains stay away until the shower.

The photo of the quad father is hilarious.

You and LD have a special gift. Most people would be whining about their misfortune. You made it an adventure with a happy chicken soup

  17. Oh my heavens! Rain go away!! You two sure had your work cut out for you and you took it such stride! What a great photograph of Mr. Quad!

  18. How terrible! So happy y'all were home. You're gonna have to put a drain in the den at this rate. I thought maybe he solved it by taking out the deck and digging down some.
