Christmas Things From Dollar General!!

 I love a good Monday!
It's a good day to get things done and I did just that!
I had several things to do online and then several places I needed to go.

First things first - Coffee!
There's just something about that very first sip of the morning........
however.......instead of it being an 'ahhhhh' moment ......it was an Uh, OH!!
Louis Dean had made the coffee last night before he went to bed. Normally I make it.
We have two pots - his and hers.
He drinks 'truck driver' strong coffee.
I prefer wimpy flavored and on the weak side coffee.

I soldiered on and had my quiet time sipping on that not-so-good coffee.
When Louis Dean got up I asked him if he had put some of HIS coffee in mine.
He said, "Probably! I'm trying to get you to drink real coffee!"
Now I try and make HIS coffee the way HE likes it in HIS pot.
We had a little talk.
We've had this talk before and more than once or twice.
That's why I try to make the coffee first.
I was a bit more explicit this time.

We had BLTs for a late breakfast and then I came in and did some computer work ordering some things online and sorting out some bills and things.
He went outside to blow the leaves that fell last night onto the lawn and then mowed them.
Alas, he mowed up more than leaves.
Remember the pretty picture of our front yard all lit up so pretty with the 2,000+ lights Sabrina and Summer and Rayne had outlined the flower beds?

It's a good thing I took this photo last night because those lights are gone now.
He mowed them up!
How he did that when they were IN THE FLOWER BED and NOT in the grass, I'm not sure!
But he is clever and creative so he found a way to do it!
I noticed he had gone in his music room and had been really quiet.
Turns out he was trying to repair them - but they had been mortally wounded.

I decided to needed to get out of the house and run my errands to prevent me from staying here and running my mouth.....which I was seriously inclined to do!

My first stop cheered me right up!
Dollar General just up the street.
I did not expect to see much in the way of Christmas stuff - but was pleasantly surprised to find isle after isle full to overflowing.
I've learned to buy it when you see it - both at the Dollar store AND at Aldi!

The checker told me he had worked until 1:00 Sunday morning putting out all the burlap style Christmas bags. I bought up several and will be using them as covers for the pillows in the gazebo.
(I already put one on and it looks great!)

I loved the candy cane spoons for hot chocolate.....

They will go nicely with the mug cookies from Aldi.

The wine cylinders will hold pumpkin muffins for Kimmy and fruitcake cookies for June.

I'm hosting a sisters/cousins luncheon on Friday and these crackers will go with the cheese tray I'll be serving.

Old fashioned spiral lollipops......perfect stocking stuffers for the younger grands.

I picked up teo $1 ornaments and hung them in the bedroom at either end of the garland above our bed.

Candles! Candles! Candles!
I can never have too many!

I found these memory foam rugs for the kitchen......and realized I needed one more.
I'd already changed clothes and put on a sleep dress, but I knew if I waited until tomorrow, they might not be there! So I thre on a lacey shawl and some shoes and a cap and went right back to the store.

I'm glad I did!!
These feel good on my feet, which is a good thing since they have been hurting me more than usual the last few days.

I started my Christmas cards last night and dropped the first 50 at the post office, returned two things to two different Amazon drop off places, made a bank deposit (I know! I'm so old school! I actually go through the drive through line and physically deposit my check!)
Lastly, I shopped Home Goods and TJ Max for some Christmas gifts before coming home in a better mood......which slipped a bit when I saw all the damage control I had to do.
Seriously, it's like leaving a two year old home alone!
Not a smart thing to do!
I have been known to take him with me and just let him sit in the car while I run in at places.

My Kansas City Siblings to the rescue!
I opened the door to a gift box of Topsy's Gourmet Popcorn from Rita and Buster!

Cinnamon, caramel and cheese!

After I did 'clean up on isle 3',  I threw together some leftovers from the fridge and called it dinner.

Then I put some pain cream and toe socks on, fixed us each a bowl of popcorn and put my feet up and proceeded to watch not one but TWO Hallmark Christmas movies!!

Ahhhhh......much better!

We haven't hooked up our new Internet from Spectrum yet and they have sent me some emails reminding us.....so I think I'm going to give it a try tomorrow.
Or I may call Pam......

I'll close tonight's journal entry with a pic of Sweet Samantha.
My feelings have been on a roller coaster of emotions today and it helps to smile at the cat.....
and at Louis Dean!

I would be livid of the lights ruined...but, once I calm down from the boiling point, I remind myself "100 years from now it'll make no difference"...and go on with my day. Good buys!! Don't drink coffee myself.

First the coffee, then the things. I hear ya!

Oh my! I'm glad you went on a shopping trip to cool down a bit!! I know Louis Dean didn't mow the lights down on purpose, but whoa!! What a mess!
But...you pulled it together and pulled supper together and then pulled some popcorn and a movie together for y'all. As someone said, "A hundred years from now, it won't matter!"
You found some great buys, and a bit of retail therapy is cheeting, especially when we can afford it. The sister/cousin luncheon is something I hope you'll write about, too.
The picture of the cat looked like she was trying to commiserate with you!("I know, Mommy! Daddy can be more of a pest than Tabitha and me both sometimes, can't he! But, he's the only Daddy we've got, so we've got to take the good with the bad, huh!")
Have a good day, whirling dervish/Linda. You pack so much into one day! Glad I'm not the competitive type, you'd always win.
Love you, girl!

So sorry about the lights and I know LD feels terrible. Glad you were able to go shopping and get lots of pretty things and work your way out of anger, it doesn't help in the long run. Samantha was posed so pretty for the picture.

What a great idea using the wine boxes to hold muffins and cookies! I never would have thought of that and it's perfect! I love those foam mats for the kitchen. Our DG has lots of the red truck stuff, but I haven't seen those. I may have to stop by today. So very cute and festive!

i think it was a good thing you had coffee before you found the destroyed lights. does summer know yet? brahahaha... you hit the DG jackpot.. I wish my mother could see your house, she would beg to move in with you.. she spent her whole life PUTTING UP with Daddy so she would get along with LD and his minor episodes. LOL

Oh my gosh where to even START!!! I am so sorry, but we have been howling with laughter. This needs to be your yearly traditional story. Mowning up the lights. And then later in your blog... what he had done when to you home, this just gets more and more funny. You have made our DAY!! I am so glad you say WHICH dollar store you went to. I am going TODAY, and can't wait!!! The throw pillows are so expensive, and you had a stroke of genius to make a throw pillow out of the totes!!!! Plus I love the other stuff you got. I was there a week or so ago, and there were unopened boxes stacked everywhere. They just don't have enough hwlp to unpack them in a timely manner. It is the same in all the dollar stores.

hi there my sweet Linda! No matter what you post.....I ALWAYS ENJOY it! Love to hear of you and Louis Dean's adventures! I also love the dollar stores, always buy lots of goodies there. Looks like you found some neat stuff. Wow, your house is all decorated BIG TIME!! I am behind for sure....the older we get the longer it takes...we don't put up as much as we used to for sure. Last night we did the Christmas tree and the fireplace mantel. Tonight we hope to tackle the manger scene and all the angels. Slow going, but worth it. Once it's all up....so nice to sit down and relax and see all the twinkling lights and pretty things, right?

Perhaps both of you could try coffee a little bit stronger/weaker and you might end up with one you both enjoy - your palate does change with practice - or you could just make sure he makes it for you the way you like it or not at all. Not meaning any criticism here - you guys manage just fine! Cheers

It is a shame that the lights are no more, but it's the little things that can make or break a holiday. This is one of the things that are best let go because it really is not worth an argument. I am with you on preferring weaker coffee and thank goodness Grenville doesn't really drink vit strong since he gets in in the early am for both of us. You really did get some great things at that Dollar General and you are SO right that when you see it, get it because it won't be there tommorrow!

I like my McCafe from McDonalds.lol Brenda, just wanted to let you know that Mother did great when we took her to the nursing facility today. We could really tell that the prayer warriors had gone before us and God gave us all a great peace. Thanks for your prayers.
