I have had a big of weariness lately and nearly canceled thrifting with Brenda.
I am so glad I did not!
I'd had a restless night with little sleep but went about my morning routine.
Feed the cats, take my medicine, start my coffee and went into Louis Dean's bathroom to write on his chalkboard and put out his medicine.
I smiled so big when I looked over and saw that he had written in the day.
Never mind it was the 11th instead of the 12th....
We have tried several methods for Louis Dean taking his medicine - and this is the one that has been working for us. If I take the medicine to him and watch while he takes it......well, it's not really good for either one of us. But by putting it out in the morning and at night - he sees it and takes it of his own accord. This is a win! WIN! It's important that he keep his dignity and doesn't feel like he's treated as a child. And this keeps me from having to remember to take his meddicine to him.
I met up with Brenda at Texas Thrift. This store has changed drastically since new owners from New York - no senior discount, higher prices and they changed the entire store around!
Yes, change is inevitable and we do adapt to it - but this is no longer our favorite store.
We shopped three thrift stores - Texas Thrift, Thrift Giant and Goodwill.
We both found treasures at all three. Not many but some and we were happy!
The blue tags at Texas Thrift were 50% off and the green ones were 75% off.
This cute lacy piece was a blue tag so I got ot for $6!
This driftwood piece was $5.99 less 25% at Thrift Giant.
I put it out by the kitchen water fountain.
Another $5.99 treasure less 25%....
The basket has hooks to hang over a rod and it is habging in our gazebo.
I love this pretty dress and it was 75% off so I got it for $3!
I put this in Louis Dean's bathroom and he noticed it today!
He's loving his John Wayne/Western bathroom!
I post my treasures but Brenda allowed me to share some of her treasures.
These rabbits are all thrift finds and are on display in her home for Easter.
I love Brenda's and Billy's home.
The rabbit couple is perfect for her den.
I love how she used an Easter wreath as a base for her lamp!
I came home in a good mood and continued to nest.
I suppose homemaking and fluffing up, adding pretty 'fillers' here and there - that's all therapy for me.
Caretaking, writing my book, dealing with my own aging issues...
....it can weigh down on me.
But God gives us strength and courage to keep going.
I went to bed at 10:00 last night and got up at 11:15 this morning.
I did wake up twice for potty breaks but went right back to sleep.
13 hours of sleep really makes a difference.
The weather was beautiful and we returned to the tradition of having our quiet time outside.
Today has been a good one full of hope and confidence.
Many days Louis Dean ocuppies himself but the last couple of days he has been productive in his projects. I find he needs me to not only tell him what needs to be done but show him.
So we went out on the kitchen deck after our coffee and I directed him to a few projects he needed to do - and by gentle direction and encouragement - he did several repairs and was so proud of himself and I was proud of him, too!
Louis Dean is still my Knight in Shining Overalls and "All of me loves all of him."

I wish I had the words to express how much your blog encourages and inspires me. I hope just a little bit of your hospitality and graciousness rubs off on me!
Oh Linda, how we love our "Knights". I feel your weary times too, and your fun times at the Thrift Stores. Our one and only Thrift store has changed. I hadn't been for a long time, and went a few days ago, and was so disappointed. Like you said, prices up, store changed all around but I did find a small glass dome for my plate that I broke not long ago. $2 so that was a find, and two paper back NASV Bibles to give away. So it was a win-win. We deal with the "pill saga" too. I give my dearest his at breakfast, and set out in a little pill box his 2 pm and evening!! But what a joy that the Lord has let us live this long and enjoy our lives together. Love you kindred sister!!
All of me loves all of you is from a John Legend song! I love the pretty dress you found, what I would call a sundress. I'm so glad you have a medicine routine that works for both of you!
Too bad about the new owners making less than desirable changes to the thrift store. Getting rid of a senior discount doesn't seem like a good move to me though.
I love that you find ways to help Louis Dean not feel like he's being treated like a child.
Like most, I've noticed that the thrift stores are really increasing their prices, not sure why as their products are usually donated. Maybe it's utilities? I've put many things back as I can go to TJ Maxx and pay the same or even less.
So glad LD loves his John Wayne bathroom - you did a great job there. Spring is coming and I am so happy about that!
caregiving is 24/7 and it just wears you out. you probably just had to sleep that long to recharge yourself. every store is up and up.. I like JW bathroom too. bob has been good with a box by the coffee cup, of morning pills and a box by his place he eats dinner for evening. Until 2 weeks ago. he missed to days on each box, I put his boxes with mine and Beaus and now I hand bob his first and Beau 2nd and me 3rd and twice I missed my own, because I am trying so hard to remember theirs. can't leave notes for bob, he doesn't see them.
I put popcycles for him in fridge and he forgets they are there. I have to hand it to him, then he says, I would have eaten those if I knew they were there. he does that with left overs. like part of a saugage I did not eat, I used to put it where his lunch meat stays and he would see it and use it, now it will lay there until I hand it to him..
Love this post and love you.
Hi Linda. You always find fun things when you go thrifting! Too bad about the changes at Texas Thrift, but at least you have some other stores you like! I love how you are so kind, compassionate and patient with L.D.. We all need more of that in the world! Thanks for this lovely, upbeat post. See you again soon!
You found such pretty things! Makes me want to go thrifting. We all have to listen to our bodies and rest when we need too! Hugs to you both!
How kind you are, Miss Linda. I am glad it all came together for you and that you had a good Tuesday. Take each day as it comes. Don't push yourself too much; just enough to stay happy. From Maryellen
