Rainy Days and a Monday....

Sunday was a Day of Rest for me.
Louis Dean took himself off to the Cowboy Church and I was right where he left me when he got home. In bed!

Notice how handsome he looks in his 'church' clothes!
See? He does wear something other than overalls from time to time.
I ended up staying in bed all day long.
It must have had a stomach bug or something.

Dean and Sherry called me and we chatted a little while.
It was so good to hear their voices.
I'm truly disappointed we are not going to the ranch this month....and we already missed September.

They sent this video to me. They were at the back of the property watching the bonfire and I loved hearing the night sounds from the country.
I said all that was missing was a coyote howling and Dean said they had been doing that a few minutes earlier.

I didn't think I would sleep much last night since I had spent so much of the day in bed but I did.
It was good sleeping weather!
The rain continued all night long and the temps steadily dropped.
Yesterday was 79 degrees.
This morning it was 44!

We were not surprised to find the den wet again this morning.
Louis Dean had kept the shop vac in there since we knew we would be sucking up more water if it continued to rain. Alas, it was wet over by the organ!
I'm just leaving things up on the couch until the weather dries up - which doesn't look to be anytime soon.

I was feeling more like myself today.
Louis Dean helped me tie the quilt I've been working on.

I love that about him - he is game to do just about anything I ask him to!
His hands are stronger than mine and pulling that big needle through the layers of denim, batting and backing was not easy for me. I decided to use black embroidery thread from Ellen's sewing box.
Louis Dean and I talked about Ellen and how strange it is that inanimate objects sometimes last far longer than the people they belonged to. I think it's important to be able to talk and for Louis Dean to share his happy memories of life with his beloved Ellen.

The quilt is done!!
I used a duvet cover for the backing and I was happy with the way it turned out.
All ready to take with me when I go to Arizona next week!
Now just one more crib quilt to make before the end of November.
After that I will need to whack up a whole new batch of jeans and cut out some more squares because my stash has dwindled greatly!

Louis Dean did the cooking today.
He made spaghetti and meat sauce.
While he was in the kitchen, I went outside between showers and picked a twig or two of honeysuckle and a couple of rosebuds.

The gardens are loving all this rain!

I used a tiny green Champagne bottle as a vase and put it beside our bed.

I had planned to paint while we were down at the ranch but since we're not going -
I set up the art table. It's ready and waiting.
Tomorrow we will be going over to Quadville in the afternoon but I may start painting when we get home tomorrow evening. I'm still taking the week off from my normal activities and will use this time to get my Santas done. I am way late!
I will be using the Texas Santa painting for our Christmas cards this year.
Last year I used the Sledding Santa.
Then I have three Santa pictures - all are 16 X 20.
One is for me.
One is for the Chinese Christmas Tree in Fort Worth on Christmas morning.
One is for my annual giveaway.

If you have done giveaways on your blog - may I ask you how you do them?
Last year I wrote down every name on a piece of paper every time I received their comment.
Plus I wrote the names of those who commented on Facebook.
It was a lot of work.
Is there an easier way?

It's still raining as I write.
I'm sitting by the French doors in the sewing room.
The house smells good since we had a fire earlier while we watched Bull.
I guess it's time to blow out the candles and turn off the lights.
Louis Dean is singing and playing the guitar in his music room.
I'll take a hot shower and put on one of the winter gowns before going to bed.
In the next few days I am going to change the bedding to flannel sheets and put the electric blanket on. Plus I need to change out my closet to fall and winter.

So sorry to hear you were under the weather, but I'm glad you had a nice day of rest. Our temps outside have also drastically dropped ... It's like we've gone straight from Summer to Winter!

I'm sure it feels wonderful now that you have completed your quilt! :)

You were so busy for a few days last week, do you think you may have been over-tired and that's why you didn't feel well? *hugs* Or was it perhaps the flu shot you got (or was that not you that got a flu shot and I'm dreaming??!!) that made you feel unwell? At any rate, I'm so happy you rested on Sunday, my dear. Rest does a body good... as does doing what we love. I hope you get a lot of "just being" done in the immediate future. Your quilts are wonderful! Lovingly, Andrea xoxo

There seems to be some sort of tummy bug going around. Lots of people here have it. Our temps have dropped as well. I love getting up and finding the heat coming up. Your quilt is gorgeous. Something I never tried to do.

Linda, I may have to turn the blinking heat on here....it's 29 degrees this Tuesday morning here in central Indiana. They predicted a hard freeze. I am hoping this freeze kills the flying biting things.
Hope you get strong and well again. I know you and LD do not like to just sit still for long. Good you did not go to church while sick.
It will be fun to see your paintings again. I always like to see how far you have come on them. Blessings to all of you, xoxo, love you, Susie

You deserve a week off Linda!! You both have been very busy. As for the giveaway, I have used the random number generator. I only have the comments on my blog to deal with so I just put in the number of comments then let the generator go and choose the number that corresponds with the comment. I have also put names in a hat and let the grands pull one out. I think limiting the number of comments to one blog post is helpful as well. The longer you leave it open, the more work!! Off to have breakfast with a friend this morning. It is chilly here in Alabama as well!

I’m liking our cooler temps too! Soon I’ll be putting the flannel sheets on the beds!

Glad your resting, and taking time to just be. Painting your Santa’s sounds like a great way to spend your time.

your cowboy does look so handsome in his church clothes. I do hope you can find what is leaking and get it repaired, roof leak or floor leak, do you know what is leaking? glad you got your full day and night of rest, that means you needed it... bob's hands are a lot stronger than mine.

Knowing how much you all need the rain there, It is sad that it is causing so much trouble with the leaking. Sorta of takes the joy of it. Glad you were able to get some good rest and also finish up the quilt. It is another beautiful one. I do like the backing. How wonderful you had help too. With another trip coming up it's good you can slow down a bit. I've got my flannel sheets on the bed. I do love then when it's cold. Hope you have a terrific Tuesday!

Your man does look good in his church clothes and nice that you were able to just have a day of rest. Sorry for all the leaks, that is such a pain. The weather has definitely changed there and so quickly. Glad you finished the quilt and that LD helped.

I think Louis Dean is tipping his hat at us! I love your quilt, it is country beautiful. And it looks like fall. I loved hearing the crackling fire and crickets! Crickets are around our back door; I think they are cold and want in! I wonder if they die during winter...I will have to Google that. You have an organ! Who plays? Yes, I have had several giveaways. I do not include Facebook, it is too confusing and too much work!! Mine are Blog only!! That way it is easy peasy. I just write down the names of the commenters all on one piece of paper, then cut it up. I put the names in a bowl, mix them up and draw one.

Handsome hub you have there!!! And you still don't know what the leak is from? I just love to look at all your pictures - you are one BUSY gal.

I stayed covered up on the couch most of Sunday. I cant say that I am sick but I have coughed a lung up and I am sounding like a bass singer instead of myself. I feel fine other than being tired. The temps here have changed as well and thankfully we have not had much rain. I am not happy to see fall arrive this way.

I just saw news coverage of rain & flooding in central Texas (of bridges washing away) and had to think of you. Sorry that you are dealing with water in the house again. Take care...stay warm and dry and healthy!

Hi Linda, I haven't done a giveaway for a while - when I did I created a Word doc with a numbered table and then used an envelope I already had with numbers in it from 1 to 100 and just pulled out a number and matched it with the number in the document. I also limited each person to only one entry in the document to give evveryone an equal chance.. Good luck. Cheers

Your quilt looks good! I like the yellow plaid backing.

I've done giveaways a few times and always have done just as Ginny describes in her comment. If I were you, I would do the giveaway for a limited time on a limited number of posts, and have it for blog comments only. You could just announce on Facebook that the giveaway will be for blog comments only. If they want to win, they'll click over!

Hope you are feeling better!
