It's Saturday Night...

and I feel like I did when I was a kid! We've taken our baths, washed our hair  and set out our clothes for church in the morning. Back in the 'old days' I would have polished my shoes. Does anyone polish shoes anymore? I know I don't!  But Louis Dean just said HE does!! All I have left to do is journal and do a bit more reading. Every time Louis Dean and I have taken a break today I would read another chapter of  The Egg and I out loud. Sometimes I was laughing so hard I was crying and couldn't get the words out! It is the funniest book I have ever read - and I have read it more than once and STILL crack up!! This is Louis Dean's first time to hear it and I think he is enjoying it every bit as much as I am!

It's been a good day and we worked outside for much of it. No housework today. Just meal making and even THAT was partially cooked outside.

My sister gave us some great pork cuts and MAN! They were delicious! I made mashed potatoes, asparagus and a garden salad. It made a fine meal and - come to think of it - it was our ONLY meal today.
We may very well have a glass of crackers and milk before going to bed, though.

First thing this morning - which happened to be about 11:30 am - I gathered up my courage and opened up the side gate to survey the 'damage.' Louis Dean had dug up a stone walk to put some drain pipes underground so our den won't flood anymore. The drains and pipes are done deals but the stones were all scattered around. These are some HEAVY cut stone pieces! I am particularly protective of my Nandina bushes and have been ever since I told Louis Dean he could trim the ones along the front stone privacy fence - and he proceeded to whack them off at ground level with his chain saw. Well, THESE stones were ON TOP of my shrubs and liriope and Asian jasmine.

Louis Dean often quotes this old saying from his bakery days:
Things to do for the day -
Wake up!
Get up!
Get organized!
Talk to wife.
Get reorganized!

Let's just say that's what happened today!

He got the stones OFF of the plants.....
and thought a CURVED walk would look good.

Once again - he talked to wife and got reorganized!!
You don't CURVE square stones!

Straight looks SO much better!!
He's not finished but he did a TON of work today - literally!!!

Summer came over this afternoon and we booked our flights to San Francisco!
We will be flying out there for a week early in October to celebrate MY 65th birthday and HER 50th one.
We have planned to do this for years now and here it is!
We have both been there many times......family vacations when she was a little girl and later trips as well.
It's been quite a few years now since I've been there and I am SO excited!!!
We will have so much fun together!!

Now I'm off to read another chapter or two to us before we call this a day!
'Early to bed and early to rise makes one healthy, wealthy and wise!'
I seriously doubt that but we're going to give it a try tonight!

I'm pretty sure that I've curved straight stones, but to each her own. I certainly hope that this earns me brownie points with LD, but you may be kicking me out on my keister.

You and Summer will have a blast as you always do. Much of the fun will be in the planning.

You've reminded me to get my Sunday go to meeting shoes ready...wherever I put them.

Sleep well!

Fun to plan ahead for your and Summer's birthdays. LD must be exhausted. Hope the temp. was not as high today. Ouch on the plants.

Hi Linda, those pork cuts look divine, and that book sounds hilarious! I don't polish my shoes anymore but I fondly remember my father doing his and mine when I was a little girl.

I've never heard of that book you're reading. Sounds like I might want to check it out though! The stone path looks nice. LD is a wise man to talk to his wife and then RE-organize! LOL! I like that quote. Sounds like you're going to have a wonderful trip this Fall. I've never been to SF, but would love to see it someday. You two will be celebrating such milestone birthdays together!

Ha Ha- I love this. I cracked up at LD having to reorganize. You two are too funny!

Your trip to SF sounds amazing. Anika wants to go to California so bad. I keep telling her maybe one day. It is completely across the map for us.
