Our Third Weekend of May......

We have enjoyed a good weekend here at home for all three days.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday!
I love home days.

Life is simpler when we stay home.

Louis Dean has endless ways of keeping himself busy and I always have things to do.
It's a Win! WIN!!

Judy gave me this stand made from an antique door when we were over at her house on Thursday.

I found the perfect place for it in my sewing room.

All my art supplies, craft supplies, sewing materials and cookbooks are in this room.
Plus we have an extra AC in here so I can cool down quick after working outside.
Originally I planned to put the stand under an overhang by the storage house just across from our bedroom door. But after I thought about it, I decided I want to place it where I can see it often and where it won't be damaged by the weather.

When I woke up on Friday morning, Louis Dean already had a campfire going in the backyard.
I found him lost in thought as he was gazing into the flames.

He likes simple things and being outside.
He is also loving the warmer weather.

Once the fire burned down, he wet down the ashes and cooled the metal off  with the water hose before mending the surround of the small fire pit. He's happiest when he is repairing or fixin' something.

I made us a late breakfast of fried egg, ham and cheese sandwich and the rest of the roasted veggies from the night before.

He worked outside most of the day.
I pulled weeds and did some yardwork before going in and doing my housework.
A woman's work is never done!

I took the watermelon LD had bought on Tuesday out to the kitchen deck to cut.
This is the way Mother always cut up watermelons--on newspapers and outdoors.
Saves making a sticky mess in the kitchen. I do NOT like sticky!
It was the reddest watermelon and the prettiest one I'd seen in a long time.
And it was delicious!

Friday night supper was loaded baked potatoes, stewed chicken and garlic/cheese toast.
Can you see the face on the toast? It looks like he's winking at me!
I cooked a whole chicken in the crock pot all afternoon for the chicken pot pie I was making on Saturday.

Ilene and I are getting in the habit of having fancy cocktail drinks on the driveway followed by dinner and a movie on Saturday nights.

The drinks were good!
The visit and conversation even better.

I used sparkling infusion peach wine, peach flavored sparkling water, mint, blackberries and diced peaches. SO good!
A perfect cocktail for our warmer weather here in Texas!
We have already had a triple digit day but only one so far.

I prepared a good charcuterie board but forgot to take a pic before we dived in.
French baguette slices toasted with butter, garlic salt and Italian seasonings, topped with parmesan cheese and a carmelized onion and bacon dip from Aldi rounded out the veggies, cheese/crackers and olives.

I combined two recipes for the pot pie and made enough for two big pies and then froze the rest into three bags for the freezer.

Our Saturday night movie choice!
It was really good but hit a chord with Louis Dean as it deals with a wife having cancer.
It's the story of Jeremy Camp and his young wife.
I didn't think Louis Dean could follow movies much anymore and he didn't join Ilene and me until later in the film. But he saw and understood what was happening and excused himself by saying, "Sorry but this hits too close to home. I'm going to go piddle around in my room."
It was an emotional and inspiring movie.
But our next film will hopefully be more like Nonnas.

The Stars game went into overtime but we WON!!
After Ilene left, I watched the highlights and it was an intense game with some great plays and even greater near-plays!

Louis Dean had declared he wanted to go to church but he had a rough night and did not get much sleep, so I opted to watch the service online and stay home with him.

Meals today were simple.
Fresh salads with leftover pot pie and later cereal for supper.

Today I finished chapter 40 and started on chapter 41.
I have the urge to rush aheada and recap the entire year in one short chapter.
But then I read my diary from 2003 and realize I can't do that.
Now I'm not really sure how many chapters there will be in Children in the Closet.
I'll just keep writing until it's done and done will be in 2019 after Mother's funeral.

I loved it all - but boy that quote hit home. Love bees and I am scared to death of them. Your food looked great. Say the movie about Jermey Camp and Nonnas. Good choices.

Now I am drooling... the watermelon is the reddest I have ever seen. One of my favorite fruits.
I'm so glad your weekend at home was good. I think it was a good decision to watch church on line and be there with LD.
You have such a tender heart.

I also really like the quote at the end of your post. So true.
What happened to Chapter 16? I thought you had said it was ready to post, but maybe not. Probably just wishful thinking on my part, haha.

OH, that watermelon looks so refreshing and good...and RED! Wow! Your meals always look so delicious and delightful! You are really a creative and interesting cook! I need to take some lessons from you. Everything always looks so yummy. I loved the pictures of everything...and that DOOR made into a table/cabinet...I LOVE that! I once had an old door and I wanted to do something like that, but it fell over and broke and that was that. It was kind of rotten in places I guess. But it gave me ideas, which I've never followed up on. Love the picture od LD outside by the campfire. This was all so special.
