1500th Post!! Another Day on the Ranch!

Tonight I sit here at my laptop writing my 1500th post.
Who knew I was such a talker?

It's been a challenge to keep Louis Dean all bandaged up since we've been dodwn here.
He takes blood thinners and bleeds easily. He's had some encounters with some chicken wire lately and just brushing against something can cause the spots on his arms to spout blood.
We've already used up all our Band Aids and he needed something to protect his boo boo's!

Last night I cut the toes out of a pair of new sox and snipped a little hole for his thumb to fit through -
and PRESTO! We have long bandages for both arms which he slept in to avoid bleeding all over the bedcovers. Just the sheets rustling will cause the skin to lift up and bleed more.
He wore these while he did the morning AND evening chores today and they worked very well.

We tethered the goats down in the meadow - after first putting them up by the tank.
We checked on them mid day and found one had broke loose. The meadow worked better for us.

There's benches and chairs down there to rest in the shade.
Isn't he cute as all get out??
Once we settled the goats, it was back to the camper for a few more episodes of LOST!

Lest we stay inside all day, once the sun was behind the camper, we spend a couple of hours on the deck. Louis Dean did what he does best - SIT!

I painted for about a half hour and it was nice to get one Santa painting finished!
One more to go and I have about a half hour on it as well. Tomorrow. One Santa is enough for today!

See him over there supervising?
I worked on a landscape I did back in 2002.
That was a dark year for me and it seems that I painted and then abruptly stopped and signed my name. I didn't really finish the painting back then. I just stopped. No highlights or details.

I went back and lightened it up a bit and already I like it better!

See the socks hanging up there??
Louis Dean did enough work that they needed to be washed before he could wear them to bed tonight!

We rode our bikes down to the meadow to take the goats to their pen for the night.
I love the way the sun was shining through the trees.

It is still warm for October but there's no mistaking the light.....it has the autumn glow in it.

These goats are still young and playful.

Still, they are strong!
Stronger than I am!

We were sitting on the deck when Sherry and Dean returned tonight and, believe you me, they were a sight for sore eyes!!!
Just think, tomorrow morning we can sleep in with no thoughts of chickens and ducks and goats needing to be fed and watered!
Taking care of critters is a little harder than we thought!

Congrats on 1500 posts! Wow!

That's a shame about LD bleeding so much. You are so clever to use the socks to protect him.

Glad Dean and Sherry are home.

I miss camping! As you can imagine, there are no campers here on the island. It's one of the first thing on our "to do" list when we make it back to the mainland. Take good care of LD, as I know you always do.

You are a very talented painter. I am still learning. Haven't had time to paint lately, but when winter arrives, I hope to get back to it.

Happy are your days! So glad you both were able to go back and savor these beautiful autumn days on the ranch. Wish it were a bit cooler, don't you? Have a marvelous time...eat, pray, love! Hugs dear Linda!

Linda, I love reading your post and Nana Diana's first of my blog family. You both have so much going on and always show great photos. That was clever to use the socks for night bandages..could make some more for trading off. I know you can not stop LD from working or doing things. He likes being in the mix. You do too. LOL. I hope you had a good sleep in. I like to sleep in but feel so guilty if it's after 7 am. I don't know why either. Hope you have a beautiful day there at the ranch today. Blessings to all, love you, Susie

It looks like you and LD have settled nicely onto your little space at the ranch. I love the deck!

I love oil paintings, and you do a truly excellent job. You are just so talented. I have never been into camping, but lots of people enjoy. My son is and has a trailer down in the hill country to hunt. You just cannot be to careful when taking blood thinner.

Necessity is the mother of invention and your idea is a very creative one. I think it is also inspired. I must remember this one. Hope that you enjoyed sleeping in today! Taking care of the kids is work! Ha! This Santa turned out so well. He's terribly cute with that twinkle in his eye.

Love the socks as arm protectors- I have used them for mittens for kids in a pinch, too. lol
Your Santa is just beautiful. Do you sell them, Linda? You do such gorgeous work!!!!
It is hard taking care of critters. I was born and raised on a working dairy farm and the work was never done! xo Diana

I absolutely LOVE your latest Santa painting, well done Linda! You definitely have a gift, one I can only admire as I have no talent in the painting department.

Brilliant idea to use socks to cover LD's arms, now that's thinking!

And I chuckled to myself, critters can a person busy without a doubt!

Have yourself a fantastic rest of the week!

You and Louis Dean were so kind to critter sit. We have 2 horses and 15 chickens, a dog and a cat and I know how hard it can be to get someone who will be willing to feed them and watch out for them!

Glad Dean and Sherry are back and you can spend a few days relaxing. I'm sorry about LD arms. That happens to my Dad too!

Very inventive use of socks for Louis Dean, + he looks happy about it too! I agree about the autumn light, there's no mistaking it, even when it is warm outside, it hits the earth at a different angle somehow x
