We are having a quiet week in the country.
Son Dean brought down an electric weed eater for his dad.
Then he stayed to help him figure it out.
He had a little trouble with the string.
But he stayed focussed and busy and cleaned up a lot of weeds around the firepits amd rose bushes.
I worked in the rose garden on Monday and cut all the roses in bloom.
I also dead headed the spent ones and now the bushes are all bearing new buds!
Alas, the weed eater was beyond what Louis Dean could figure out.
At this point in time, he can't learn new things. He gets it for awhile and then forgets how to do it.
Monday I cooked a big pot of pinto beans and Sherry brought some cornbread down for us that evening. Dean had also cooked beans!
I'm watching The Last Detective on Amazon Prime.
Trying to find programs that do not assault my sences.
Louis Dean and I went to Waco on Tuesday to do some errands.
Love the country scenery.
First, the Dollar store where I bout some strong reading glasses.My prescription glasses are not doing the job, so I bought both reading glasses and walking around glasses.
Next stop was HEB and LD stayed in the truck as he did at our first stop.
His feet are bothering him and we should have brought his cane.
On to Home Depot!
I made a list on my phone for what we needed.
We bought a new weed eater and a huge roll of extra string.
We also bought a new pond pump and some gardening soil.
That sounds easier than it was!
LD was very confused and he could only shuffle along instead of his normal walk.
We were both fit to be tied when we got back in the truck.
One mistake I made was not preparing a good meal before we went to town.
Instead, we ate bagels and cream cheese.
I figured LD was hungry and dehydrated so we stopped for much before going back to the ranch.
We both went in and took a good nap!
When I woke up, Louis Dean had already washed his overalls and pajama pants and had them hanging on the line.
When I get stressed I clean stuff!
When LD gets stressed, he washes clothes.
Whatever works!
He was up hours before I woke up and called out that he had some show-and-tell!
I told him I would come look-and-see!
He had the pond pump all hooked up and running.
He found a piece of flexible white tubing that put water right in the bird bath.
He asked me tocome up with a clever idea to hife the white hose.
So, between the two of us, we did it!
We dismantled a woven wreath and wired it to the hose.
Than I gathered up some faux flowers and we stuck those into the wires.
Win! WIN!!
Wednesday was definitely a better day!
Our cats are having a good time down here.
The other day I saw them playing with a tiny mouse!
They were chasing it and batting ot back and forth to each other.
They had fun until the mouse escaped and I'm hoping he won't come back.
It stormed hard Wednesday afternoon followed by a beautiful rainbow.
So peaceful here.
This morning I spent a couple of hours just sitting on the front deck listening to the sounds of the country. The mockingbird sang his medley of songs, other birds chirped and a tree frog croaked.
Ducks were quacking in the field outside our fence and I watched them walk by all in a line little soldiers. Next came the goats prancingd and the baby goats chasing their mommies for milk.
Later I saw one of the mops chase the horses and it was fun to see.
I went up to Sherry's this afternoon after she got off work and watched her make crackers from sour dough bread starter. She's giving me some starter to take home. Sherry had already baked some cookies from the starter and they were delicious as were the two kinds of crackers, parmesan/sage and parmesan/rosemary.
While I was up there I played with the baby chicks who are now big enough that one ocassionally flutters out of the glass coop. I also looked at the duck eggs that are in the incubater.
There's always so much to see and do.
It's GOOD to be in the country!
