The 9th Letter and Our Saturday......

Louis Dean is sleeping HOURS later than I am lately so this morning I took my coffee and biscuit to the gazebo and read the 9th letter.

I am discovering them all over again and even doing a bit of research on the family when I can.
It appears that Leila, Eva and Polly ( Lucy) are sisters.

One interesting tidbit I found in my research this evening is that Weslaco is less than 250 miles from Atascosa - which is the home town of the Crawford sisters' father - James A. Crawford.
He was born there in December of 1863.
I started drowning in research - it can suck you in and I pulled myself out just in the nick of time!!!

In other Saturday news today......
Louis Dean and I are still chipping away at our to do list.
He cut the trim for the one dining room wall I am working on and I painted it.
We will nail it in place tomorrow afternoon.

We had a really good lunch!

Steak cooked on our ceramic grill......

and fresh vegetables roasted in the oven with herbs from the garden!
We ate in the den while we watch the 1993 Clint Eastwood movie, In the Line of Fire.

I love a Saturday when I get to stay at home, no make up and wear my shabby clothes!

All my fall is out and where I want it so now I am just pretty-ing things up and doing some cleaning.

I like to go room by room and I made it through the den on to the foyer and finished the living room.

The deep rich colors of FALL are so beautiful!
It won't be long until September first when I can CELEBRATE!
I'm thinking of throwing a craft/art/fall party that night!
There will be music - Neil Diamond singing September Morn - and lots of fall baked goodies like Fruitcake Cookies, Mincemeat Cookies, Pumpkin Spice Muffins and more.
Perhaps YOU could come!!

So this is where I am winding up tonight's journal entry!
Louis Dean has a fire burning in the pit out here by the gazebo and it smells wonderful!

Until next time - I will still be here......

  3. Wow, that was a LONG letter. These are so interesting. I'd love to know what happened to them and where they or their family is today. I have a blog friend who lives is Weslaco.

So you are all ready for fall. Why am I not surprised? Your things are so pretty. I think I like fall for all the rich colors also. A party on the 1st sounds great. Believe me, if I lived closer I would be there.

  6. What a nice Saturday. Have always loved In the Line of Fire. Great movie. I like the line Sandra mentioned too. Don and I always find one line from a movie..and repeat it in every day life....like "Soon but not Yet." from Gladiator. Your meal looks so delicious and healthy. Love your Fall rich colors and the inviting look of your living room. Sending hugs...I have my Fall up....didn't take long in our little home.

  9. What I love about the letters is the specifics she puts in about how she feels a out her sister and the family scandal and the sewing so beautifully and teaching her maid to speak a little English. She even describes the customs...always interesting...she should have written a book. Then there's the concern about having enough money to retire on. Everything old is new again.

Hope that your lovely home all decorated for autumn is making you feel cooler! I haven't decorwted seasonally for way too long...never changed anything as I usually do. Guess I'll wait for autumn now.

  11. Oh your Autumn colors/decor is so perfect right now. How many of us are anxious to have this humid inferno leave Texas?!! All of us I think. lol

You two seem to be getting back in the groove of life. Which is so good to read. There for a while I was really worried about L. D.

Your outdoor grill food looks heavenly.

And yes, I know just what you mean about delving into research on family history...it CAN BE addictive.

ps...no I haven't finished The Pioneer Girl. I'm waiting to read only bits and pieces at a time. It's a very HEAVY book.
