Exploring Snyder, Texas!

We are staying in a no frills motel room and we are fine with that.
However, we didn't realize we didn't have a small coffee pot in our room or coffee available in the lobby. Covid 19 has changed so much.
Even though a complimentary breakfast was included in our room - due to Covid - it really wasn't.

We slept in, dressed and was out and about shortly before 11:00 looking for breakfast, and more importantly, COFFEE! I used Waze to locate coffee shops and we spent some time driving to first one place and then another only to discover the coffee shop or cafe is no longer in business.
We've seen first hand how Covid 19 has affected this small West Texas town.
With a population of 11,165.....there has been 646 reported cases of the virus and 4 deaths.

We eventually gave up on finding a comfortable coffee shop with real coffee cups and a friendly waitress keeping them filled. Instead we parked at the McDonald's and arrived too late to have breakfast. But we did get our coffee! I order a small coffee - half coffee and half hot water with 6 creamers! - while Louis Dean ordered a large black. You have to admit - McDonald's has really good coffee!

Next stop - Walmart to buy a coffee pot, coffee, filters and more to fit into a new tub that we will keep in the truck for when we travel. We can transfer it to our car when needed. Plus a coffee cake for in the morning and a box of donuts just because!

On our way back to our motel, we spied the Scurry County Republican Party Headquarters.

We parked and went in!

What a fun place!

They had a great photo op set up and we had a lot of fun taking pictures.

This window display was just a few dorrs down at a shop.

We were headed back to our motel when we passed this!

The Scurry County Visitors Center!

How unique and special!

All sorts of vintage 'debris!'

My brother in law, Mike, loves Sinclair!

Who wouldn't love this cool truck??

My friend, Rhonda, remembers her dad always said, "Take care! Buy Sinclair!"

It was a another good photo op!

We are headed to the country this evening to Chandy and Chris's new place to celebrate Bella's third birthday! And to meet Jaxon! And to deliver Piercyn's April birthday gift!
When I talked to them on the phone earlier, Piercyn said that Granddad needs to bring his guitar because he's been practicing a song to play for Bella's party tonight!

Guitar loaded and we are heading to the country to PARTY tonight!!

  1. I love visiting the Republican Party Headquarters in my town. They are fun to look through. I’m with you on the coffee. Great idea getting your own coffee maker to travel with. It’s JUST THAT IMPORTANT!

  2. Oh my, I never thought about hotels not having coffee or cafes being open. Glad you were able to find a McDonald's and that's a great idea to bring your own coffee maker with you. I am going to remember that for the next time I go away. Love all your pictures. Have fun with your family.

  3. The Sinclair visitors center is cool, and I love it's colors. Sinclair has been around as long as I can remember. And I did not know they still existed.

  4. Yes so many changes because of covid-19 but many that we don't think of. Here is our area inside dinning isn't re-opening but maintain drive thru. I have heard that are making more money doing that way and needing less help. Loved all the parotitic pictures of the two of you.

  5. Good idea to get your own coffee pot for travel. Breakfast of cake and donuts is one of my favorites, but usually try to eat healthier. Still it is very good. Hope you enjoy the party. Sounds wonderful !

  6. I love all that vintage Automotive stuff wow I would love to see that and so would Bob. We always took a coffee pot with us it was in a special box and it had the pot the filters and I always put a can of coffee in it before we left if we left home and we're going to spend the night anywhere it went with us. You do not want to see me until I get my first cup of coffee of the morning. I would rather do without coffee then drink McDonald's coffee

  7. I had never thought about hotels and motels not having a coffee post either.
We found out 2 weeks ago when we were in Las Vegas for our Granddaughter's wedding. See my last 2 blog posts. https://allredmop.blogspot.com
Our Hotel..The Paris resort didn't have one..as we always enjoy a Cuppa in the morning.
Things are slowly opening up here in the Sacramento,CA area...at least the county we live in. That means indoor dining is happening with social distancing and masks required for entering and leaving.
So happy you are going to see family and will enjoy meeting the newest member.
Can't wait to see all the pictures of your fun time.
Love the Sinclair "debris" and your fun patriotic photos..
    Great job.

  8. Years ago we had a travel tote that had things needed for staying in cabins. We would have mugs, cooking utensils and some pots and pans along with cleaning items. That tote has long since been disassembled but having one with a coffee pot now seems a good idea for the reasons you mentioned, Linda. In the past few months, we have also traveled and stayed in hotels which used to have in room coffee makers and/or lobby coffee machines but no longer do. Instead, you ask for coffee and then you put in your own creamers, etc. That service station vintage looks like a place we would have stopped to see.

  9. I don't drink coffee, so that wouldn't have been an issue for me, haha, but it is sad what an effect COVID has had. Meanwhile, you found a lot of cool places to take pictures.
