Wheat Fields, Fiddle Players and Friendly Horses!

I woke up this morning feeling SO much better!!
The thought of staying in the girl bunk didn't even enter my head!

We had our usual coffee and reading routine and then Louis Dean went back to work on the utility room and I did my chores - which weren't many.

I made us a late breakfast and we were talking about going to the grocery store for milk and fresh fruit when we decided to get dressed and go into Groesbeck instead of Waco or Mart.

As we headed down County Line Road, I noticed the wheat had been harvested!

Here's County Line Road......on the left the wheat still stands and on the right it is gone.
I wish I could have seen them harvesting.

I'm just a City Girl and all this country stuff fascinates me!

I just love seeing the land here month by month and season by season and now - year by year!
This time last year it was a field of cotton!

Groesbeck is just slightly closer to the ranch than Waco but there was a special reason we were going there......

It was a Fiddle Fest!

Oh, my! The music was amazing!!

Louis Dean was SUCH a happy man!!!

I stayed and listened for awhile and then left him there while I went to the grocery store.
Fresh fruit and milk was on my list. And tea, sugar, sweetener......and before I knew it I had a buggy full of stuff!

I was checking out when my phone rang and it was Louis Dean saying the Fiddle Fest was over.
It was the 50th one and they have all been held here in Groesbeck.
There was one man there who had been to the very first one and most of them in between.
Next year we will arrive earlier!!

We were driving back on Hwy 164 when I saw the sign to Ben Hur.
I had gone to Groesbeck with Son Dean a month or two ago and we came home by way of Ben Hur.
I asked Louis Dean if he was game to try a new route and we did!

It was beautiful.
I didn't get very lost at all!
I knew there was a very old bar in Ben Hur and when I saw it - and it was closed up and abandoned looking - not that we were planning on stopping there - I called Son Dean to see which way we should go. He said, "Just keep going." Well, I didn't know which way! SO I said, "Should the bar be on our left or on our right?" "On your right!" We turned around.

After we unloaded and put up our groceries, Louis Dean was more than ready to go back to his work and I was ready to walk down to the meadow and call my friend, Linda, for a little visit.

I love this tree and the way the sun lights up some of the leaves.
On my way down there I fed big fat carrots (Some of the fresh produce I bought at Brookshires!) to the horses. One big carrot for each one.

Apparently one was not enough and they followed me down to the meadow.

They seem to be more gentle and friendly than every - even after they discovered I really didn't have any more treats for them to eat!

They are pretty, aren't they?

I had moved from the bench to the picnic table trying to talk to Linda and the horses just kept on following me! This one even came up behind me and nuzzled my neck!
I ended up going around to a deck that is before you go up to the big tank and thought they couldn't find me. Nope! I was talking away and then here they came thundering to where I sat! It was like one of them said, "Hey! I found her!" and the other two came running!

It has been  such a nice day!
I cut some wheat left by the side of the road and lit my scented candle......and proceeded to blog.
We will be on Critter Duty starting in the morning and then again next weekend.

I am feeling so much better!!
Beyond that white door is our utility room!
He has one more wall to put up tomorrow and then will start the rafters.
And I think I am now ready to settle down and do some writing tomorrow.

  1. yay for the new YOU and the new utility room almost done. glad you had your phone to get directions, who knows where the other direction would take you. so happy for LD to hear those fiddles... the wheat field is just beautiful waving at me from the video... plus i love all things BREAD. those horses can be dangerous for you, if they come running up while you are out in the pasture, they can accidently hurt you. i once was petting a horse named Luke, at the ranch of a friend. Robert said to me, don't pet our horses. they are horses not pets. then he said if they get comfortable with you they can hurt you. the next time i was there, i was walking beside Kathy, she was moving Luke and andother horse to another pasture. Luke came up and butted me with his head knocking me into the other horse. i was not injured but could have been.

  6. So glad you are feeling better ! That fiddle fest would be wonderful to hear. Sounds like a wonderful trip to town. Being in the country like you are really does show off the seasons of the year. It's been so wet here I don't think any harvesting of any kind will be done anytime soon. I do love rides in the country. Thanks for the pictures showing us yours. Hope you have a good Sunday, it's a wet start to the day here, but it's supposed to stop later on.

  11. Even when you weren’t feeling so great, your posts are positive like today’s. I want to be more like you! ☺️ Ben Hur...now isn’t that a great name for a town! I think you should dole those carrots out more stringently.
