Putting My Days in Order.....

Sunday morning my sister, Luann, called to tell me she was on her way over.
I jerked myself out of bed and Louis Dean helped me wash my hair in the kitchen sink and then I took a shower in his bathroom. The shower worked out well since I could keep my right leg on the outside of the bathtub wrapped in a trash bag just in case!
I was just getting dressed when she arrived.

We took some goofy pictures and a few regular ones.

Mother and Luann. Luann was born in 1957 and is Mother's fifth child.
I think they really enjoyed visiting with each other.
I was pretty much out of it all of Sunday.
The pain meds seem to do as much harm as good and my brain and emotions were all scrambled up together!

I was SO ready to go to bed and as Louis Dean got me settled in, I thought I could hear something over in the corner of the bedroom. I was nearly convinced it was a possum hanging out there behind the tall dressing mirror! It was crazy but I did NOT want a possum disturbing me in the night and I was certainly in no shape to grab him by the tail and toss him outside as I had done last week! So my patient loving husband climbed up a step ladder and looked down behind the mirror and assured me all he could see were cobwebs!!

I took a pain pill at 3:00 in the afternoon on Sunday and then decided I could live without them from here on out! I slept well for the first time since surgery!

Mother and I spent a good part of Monday together in the den watching The Lady in a Van with Maggie Smith.

It is the true story of Mary Shepherd who lived in a van for 15 years.
It was a good movie for us to watch together! Summer finds the best ones!
Did you know that years and years ago Summer had a very real fear that I would end up a bag lady when I grew old? She doesn't worry about that anymore, I am glad to say!

Yesterday was a much better day than Sunday and I think not taking the pain pills made it so!
My sweet neighbor, Stephanie, had sent us over some delicious chicken and potatoes so we feasted on that for our Monday supper and then Louis Dean, Mother and I all sat out in the gazebo for a few minutes before bedtime.
Bedtime has been much different the last few days than our normal bedtime!!
I was in bed with lights out BEFORE 9:00 last night! What's more, I stayed in bed with no Scrabble or Words With Friends or reading for 15 hours!! It was noon when I finally opened my bedroom door and Mother was standing right there with a puzzled look on her face and asking, "What HAPPENED??" I said I was tired!

Louis Dean made breakfast for lunch for us and we ate in the gazebo with my feet propped up.

The pain from surgery has not really exceeded the pain I was experiencing before surgery!
I am grateful this type of surgery is available and my other foot will not be as bad as this one!

The cripping around has slowed me down but my instructions from the doctor said to increase my activity each and every day until I am back to normal. This is easier to do when Louis Dean is not around! He thinks I am made of glass!

He went over to Quadville to help Amber this afternoon and spend some time with the kids.
We sure have missed them! I have really missed them since I haven't seen them in 10 days! I think 13 days has been the longest time I've gone without seeing them! Thank goodness Amber sends me pictures and repeats the cute things they say to me! I know it's crazy to BE this crazy about them - but what can I say? They are just as crazy about US!! I pray this will always be so!

Mother and I spent the afternoon alone. She in the den watching TV and I resting in the bedroom.
We met together over the news when Sherry came in with the best dinner!!

Chicken Spaghetti and Garlic toast! It sure hit the spot!! Thanks go to her niece, Tori!! We are loving her being in cooking school!!!
Everyone has been so nice to me - bringing food and goodies, sending messages, sitting with me and just visiting.
Being 'laid up' can be isolating and lonely so I have been very blessed to have so many wonderful friends and family keeping me company.

My total recovery time is 8 weeks but within 2 weeks I'll be pretty much back to myself.
I can't wait! Only 9 days to go!

Mother uses a Pocket Talker to hear TV and conversations and the batteries had gone dead.
Sherry is so good! She took the time to look it over and figure out she just needed two new batteries.
Win! WIN!!!! Mother was so excited!
She was able to hear the movie we watched tonight!

It was really good and Mother clapped at the end!

This has been Day #5 and I am encouraged at my healing.
I am being the perfect patient doing every single thing on the list I was given!

Louis Dean is encouraged that I am sitting outside in the gazebo with him as I blog tonight!
He misses me when I'm not my normal self.
I'm getting well just as fast as I can!!
That means I need to go to bed now instead of getting a second wind and staying up past midnight!
Soon! I can do that sort of thing again soon!

  3. I am so glad you are able to post again, I have missed you! It does appear you have plenty of help seeing to your every need. I'm sorry but I don't understand about Luann. I never see her pictured with you and your other three siblings. I'm not sure how I thought she got to be your sister. Your mom seems to be hanging in there. I know the quads are missing you. I'm hoping the worst is over and you're going to see improvement every day now.

  4. Every day I read your blog to see how you are doing. You seem to be improving every day and that is a good thing! Prayed for you in Bible Study yesterday which is the best thing I can do for you. If I were closer I'd be bringing over food or something. Hope today is good for you.

  5. Glad to see the improvements! I bet you are missing those quads. I can't imagine going that many days without seeing my grandbaby. I believe I would be very cranky. It seems that Mom is doing well too and enjoying the time with you.

  15. Thanks for a good update as I haven't been blogging much and visiting less. Not sure why, but think it's because I'm still missing and looking for my lost camera.

So glad you mom is there with you and so many friends and family have come to your aid.

I feel for Louis Dean as I know his life is not complete without you at your perky 100%. Soon, you will be back....Loved the pictures and the narrative.

  16. Oh my goodness. I didn't know you had hurt yourself. I'm scrolling back after this. After having surgery on both wrists and the fractured arm and now a weird arse back diagnosis, I know for sure how crazy we can get lying in bed sort of helpless. Bit it's essential so take the good with the bad. Your sister and neighbors are gems and so is LD. You are in good hands.

Love to you and fast healing karma!

  17. Sometimes strong painkillers can make you feel awful. Anything with codeine in it makes me feel out of this world, it's horrible. You are being well looked after, please don't rush to get back to ypur previous level of activity, it's going to be a while before you can be on your feet all day as before. Sending much love to you X
