A "SON" Day Dinner!

Nothing like having your SON over for SUN-day Dinner!!

I love it!! It has been the BEST day! My youngest son, Benjamin, lives out in California and I have not seen him in MONTHS and MONTHS! I think it was NINE months to be exact. Once I didn't see him for one YEAR and one month - so this wasn't a record but STILL!! The timing for his visit was perfect! His birthday is Saturday!

Dinner was at 6:00 so I had all day to prepare.
It is traditional to bake up a batch of chocolate chip cookies for him and totally stands in for not having a birthday cake.
I always keep a vanilla bean in my sugar canister. Nothing like vanilla sugar!!

Cookies turned out great! Chocolate chip for Ben. Chip LESS cookies for Louis Dean and a few butterscotch chips for ME!
Plus a special cookie jar for our little neighbor girls!
 Win! WIN!!

Louis Dean made his famous brisket - and I made the BBQ sauce.

First course was this surprisingly good soup - from my favorite store (unless you count Publix which IS my favorite store!) - HEB!
Steamed veggie medley and company mashed potatoes rounded out the meal.

We cheated with store bought rolls but these are SO good!!
24 rolls for $3.99 at Sam's is a good buy!
Louis Dean is going to learn to make these as they are Mike's favorite!

I had Ben's baby book out so we strolled down memory lane.
He will be 24 on August 11th.
My how quickly he has grown up!

Birthday card and a 'to go' bag of dinner food and it was all too soon time for him to leave. When he comes into town there is a whole line up of people to see and things to do - as is only right for a young man who lives so far away and has a lot of family and friends to see!

I am so proud of the son he is and the man he has become!
It was a lovely Sunday and I enjoyed seeing my son.

Louis Dean and I told him we will have a bunk in the camper all ready for him when he visits us down in Houston.

  1. Oh Linda, What a beautiful Sunday with your son. I am so glad you got to spend some time with him. So, he lives in California....my state as well. I see you spoiled him alot, as I do for my sons when they visit. I am so happy for you.

You have a beautiful family, Linda.

    Holland Grace is taking swimming lessons at the King County Aquatic Center, (where Amber swam} I was thinking...Amber has her own team! ;}

  3. How nice to have Ben come for "Sonday" dinner. Sounds yummy too. Joe and I love those Hawaiian rolls. Hmm. Now I think I have to go get some of those.

Ben's a handsome young man. You have every right to be proud of him. Just too bad he couldn't stay longer.

  7. Great photos! Your son is one handsome fella. I'm so glad you got a visit from him. I'd say he's one smart guy for choosing those cookies. The look delicious. Those Hawaiian rolls are my Anika's favorite. She can devour those things. Hope your fella had a great birthday :)

  11. As the mother of two boys this made my heart smile. I sometimes wonder what the future will be like...when they aren't "under foot". I know you are so proud and I can tell you and your son love each other to the moon and back.

You have two handsome men there!

  12. Ahhh, he is indeed a handsome fella. I love SON time, too....they will always be our favorite fellas. :)

O, and we love those rolls, too. We like to use them as sliders for ham and cheese...I took my grandgirl's (she was 10)lunch one day to school, fixed 7 of the little sandwiches and she ate FIVE.
We are still laughing about it 4 yrs. later. That's a lot of sandwiches, even little sandwiches, for a little girl. :))
So glad you had fun with son.

  14. Linda what a wonderful day with your son, he looks so young. He definitely gets his youthful looking genes from you!

24, wow. My baby will be 24 next year and it makes me realize just how precious time with loved ones really is. Woah, this means my oldest son will be 34 next year... I have to go and do the math, this cannot be! lol

I'm going to email you a photo, maybe LD could make something like this for Amber, Mike and babies. As soon as I spotted this I thought of them.

    Have a wonderful week!
