Jesse loaded all our things into his truck Friday night and I mean he knows how to pack it
As good as Louis Dean is at packing - he said, "Jesse has me bested!"
We left our driveway at 4:30 AM - right on time!
Sam and Nora left their car at our house and we rendezvoused with Rachel's daughters and their guys in Decatur where Sam and Nora switched over to ride with one of the couples.
Jesse has 3 walkie talkies and we had ourselves a convoy!!
We did, indeed make it to Amarillo right on schedule!
Louis Dean has four tuners for his guitar - but couldn't find a single one before we left home!
Thankfully everyone is so flexible that we stopped one mile from the coffee place and he got himself another one!
Johnny is a band director and could have tuned the guitar for him and Carson has an app on his phone that he could have done it for him - but you know Louis Dean - he likes to do things himself!
Another thing Louis Dean and I forgot was his cane!
We stopped at this truck stop to get sandwiches and drinks which we ate on the road.
While I was ordering, I asked Louis Dean to ask someone if they had any canes.
Turns out they had ONE and no price on it so the cashier said, "I'll just let you have it for $5!
Win! WIN!!
We were back on the road again!
And Louis Dean was a happy camper!
We stopped at Walmart in Las Vegas, New Mexico and had so much fun shopping for the groceries!
Jesse had packed two tubs of food from home and an ice chest and I had packed one tub plus an insulated bag. Jesse had a master list made out and Sam and Nora went to get things and the other two couples said, "We've got the dairy stuff covered!"
After we checked out, Johnny said, "We should have brought the walkie talkies in with us! We could have said - who has eyes on the cheese???"
Right as we were starting the drive into the mountains, Jesse put on some John Denver music!
It's a tradition!
We arrived on schedule!!
The temp was 13 degrees!
Looking out from the back porch - the campfire pit is covered in snow and 8 more inches are expected on Thursday.
Just so pretty here!!
Now this when Jesse went to work!
He lit all the heaters in both cabins and started a fire to warm things up before turning on the water!
Louis Dean chopped up veggies for me while I cooked the ground beef.
He cubed up the cheese and by the time everyone was hungry - the crock pot queso was ready!
Jesse and Sam are so good at getting the cabin's WIFI hooked up, thawing out the pipes before turning on the water and getting fuel for the ATVs......
And all we had to do was sit back and enjoy the comings and goings.
The three young couples are in the cabin next to ours and the middle aged and elderly couple are in the main cabin with the full kitchen ad fireplace!
We all went to bed on the early side Saturday night!
Sunday morning we woke up to the fragrance of bacon and coffee!
Rachel and daughter did the cooking and LD and I cleaned up!
I dearly loved hearing all the voices and laughter and the chatting and comradery among us!
Everyone went off to do their own things from hiking to exploring for a hidden hot spring in the area!
Look how cute Nora and Sam are!
I think we all took a nap at some point in the day!
We were invited up to a friend's cabin (they live here year round) for Happy Hour Sunday night.
Louis Dean looks pretty dapper here!
Can you see the traffic signal up there!
The green light means they are welcoming friends and neighbors in for drinks and conversation.
Meet Bill to the left and his neighbor, Steven, to the right!
He served hearty appetizers like these pork shots!
It is a piece of smoked sausage with a bacon wrap and topped with cream cheese!
They have a beautiful deck out the back door of his shop.
I think he said the have been up here 25 years or so.
Such an interesting place!
It really warmed up on Sunday!
Now THAT is a bird feeding station!
He's showing me pictures of his all time favorite dog and I will be doing a painting for him.
Everyone was having fun!
Including Louis Dean!
Steven provided us with some entertainment!
On our walk back to the cabin.
Jesse took this photo and then they walked on ahead of us since we are slow.
Alas, we walked too far and had passed the cabin up when they came out looking for us!!
Sounds like a wonderful time, and how nice of Jesse to make sure you and Louis Dean could be part of it!Love, Trudy

Well Linda, my teeth are chattering, but I'm loving your wonderful trip to the cabin, snow and family and friends. Does it get any better!!
ReplyDeletePS You can't have too many canes!! We have one in every room. Don forgets where he left the one he was using..HaHa
Y'all do go on some wonderful road trips and share such good times with family, Linda. I was a bit envious that you also had some snow! After reading the lists it seems that everything was well organized in advance. Good that Louis Dean was able to get a new tuner and a cane too!
ReplyDeletethis sounds like so much fun...my kinda' fun!! it's good that everyone was so organized and that the people there are so friendly. i LOVE all the snow, even though it looks colk, you guy make it sound cozy!! i hope you brought some board games to play, that is my favorite thing to do when it snows!! i loved the 2 videos, you have the most adorable voice!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun getaway...and so organized! Love your quote at the end...happiness is about spending time and making memories with those you love.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda! You are your family sure know how to have a good time together! I love it. What a great weekend. In answer to the question you left on my blog, we are pretty sure we will stay in Utah when we retire, although we might move to Southern Utah where it is a bit warmer and doesn't snow as much. We need to be at least in the same state as our kids and grandkids. I hope you are having a good week! See you again soon.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a wonderful trip, and everything so very organized.
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of LD sitting in the chair with his new cane.
Everything looks so pretty, but I didn't realize it gets that cold and there is so much snow in New Mexico. Now I've learned something new.
What a novel idea to have a traffic sign on your house to let people know when they are welcome to come visit, and when not, haha.
Linda,
ReplyDeleteYou are such a caring and joyful woman, and everyone is drawn to that. It is a rare thing these days. Proverbs 31:10-31 certainly applies to you vs28 says her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, he praiseth her. We see that in your entire family. They give their love freely to you and Louis Dean. You are such a blessing to all of us. What a delight to see all he young people who chose a go along. And that Jessie,he takes after his mama. Taking care of the wh0le trip,an organizing master, tech guru, and he makes fabulous coffee!!You are a delight, and I am so glad that I found my way to your blog. huggs
