Kittens, Pecans and Saturday Projects!

Catching up from Tuesday!
The time gets away from me....

I've sure enjoyed being home this week.
We arrived home on Monday and I spent some time Tuesday with Brenda and Goodwilling.
Other than that - I have been HOME sweet HOME!

I've cooked and done 'homemaking' chores every single day.
While we were at the camper the last two trips - we did not turn the TV on one time.
Not that we have TV but we can watch videos - but we didn't.
Louis Dean has been watching some news but not much.
He's back to watching the old western shows he loves so much.
Much better for him than an overload of news.

I watched this movie on Amazon Prime while I was doing a sewing project.
I liked it! Love the Scottish accents!

I'm making something really different for Summer's birthday - which is on Monday!
October 26th! She will be 57 years old.
How did THAT happen??

Every morning I have lingered long in bed enjoying my coffee and prayer time.
Tabitha has joined me a few times.
This was when she climbed up and batted down a strand of fairy lights.

But she also snuggled beside me for awhile.

Every afternoon around 4:00 I go out and pick up a basket of pecans.
I don't want the squirrels to get them all!

This pecan picker upper was gifted to me one year by Doug - Reaoma and Dou were my neighbors for 17 years. I was telling Pam about t his the other night. I keep just about everything!
Still works just fine!

Since we have the new driveway - I thought it only right to clean up the front porch.

I literally took everything down!
The lights, grapevines and any and all debris hung up there.
The porch - and all that was on it - was covered in cement dust and looked really awful.
After I took everything down - Louis Dean repaired a place where the roof was leaking and then I washed the whole thing with Pine Sol and a power nozzle on the water hose.
Then I began layering things back up - starting with some LED lights.

Louis Dean and I have wine in the gazebo at night.
I normally drink only white wine but this was a natural grape one that was pretty good.
But only 'pretty good.' I am sticking to my white wine.

I woke up early Friday morning to the sound of rain!
I slipped out of bed and took my coffee to the front porch so I could enjoy it.
It was gone by noon but left everything wet so Louis Dean got a day of rest!
He's been working on replacing the deck on the kitchen side of the house by the gate.

Friday night we went over to the Bells for Pizza, Popcorn, Movie and Cokes!

We took the kittens over to stay with Amber for a couple of weeks.
They are scheduled for surgery next Wednesday and we will be at the ranch.
Amber graciously offered to keep them, take them to the vet and then care for them as they recover.
They love being with Amber and the family!
Kailey took these pics for me.

Our Friday night movie!!
Pretty funny!!!

Today - Saturday - has been wonderful!!
Chilly enough to wear a sweater but the rain is gone.

Louis Dean worked on his deck project all day long.
He will have this one done before we go back to the ranch and then when we return - he will do the other one!

I worked outside much of the day.
Mostly on the front porch but I did do a little bit in the flower beds.
The Texas Sage has some small blooms on it - which is a sign of changing weather.
Sure enough - more rain is in the forecast in the coming days..

I am loving the gloden glow of October!
Savoring these last few week of my Fall decorations.

Keeping fall fragrance candles lit in all the 'clean' rooms.

I am calling the front porch DONE!

It's all clean and fresh new lights are strung up along with some garland that got a new lease on life from a couple of cans of gold spray paint.

This will transition into Christmas very well......I have lots of wide gold and white sparkle ribbon to use and that will take us through Christmas and into January.

I didn't really decorate the porch in Halloween themed debris this year.
Sadly, we will not be dressed up and sitting on the porch with our goblin goblets of wine and lit candles as we welcome trick or treaters.
Louis Dean and I have been doing this every October 31st since we married in 2005 except for 2012 when we lived in the RV park after the quads were born.
Due to Covid - it is best we go to the ranch.
We are going to miss Halloween but next year I bet we all do it up good and make it more fun than ever!

Now I am all caught up and I hope to not get behind for the next week or two!!

  4. Happy Birthday to Summer and again I must say, that LD is so busy and active! He is impresses me greatly. And of course you are the woman behind the man, cleaning up and keeping him on target.lol We are going to Grimmwood tomorrow but will be home on Thursday and I need to pick up candy for the Trick or Treaters. We do not have too many in our neighborhood so I buy full size bars, set them out on a tray and let the children pick their favorite. I tend to stick with Hersey bars and Resses Cups as most children do not like nuts but I always get a few Snickers just in case. Have a good time at the ranch.

  5. Happy Birthday to Summer! 🥳 I can't imagine what you are creating...hope that you will share once it is done.

You and Louis Dean must have been eating your Wheaties™️ because you are both involved in big projects. Taking everything down in the gazebo and putting it back up again? What a job! Building a new deck? Oh my!

Enjoy your time at the ranch... It is your happy place.

  10. Linda, I loved the pictures. That is a nifty nut picker. Ted made Emma one while she stayed with us so often. He fixed a plastic drinking cup to a dowel rod. She would pick up bucket of hickory nuts out of the yard. She loved that picker and took it home with her. Ted would give her money for every bucket. LOL. We never used them just threw them in the burn pile. Hope Summer has a great birthday. I hope all is well there. Stay safe. Blessings, xoxo, love you, Susie

  15. I am sending best wishes to Summer for a very Happy Birthday. Hope that you show us your gift to her, Linda. Kudos to you on the porch project, a tough one, but so nice looking when all is done. Glad that the rain gave LD a day of rest, which was surely needed after all his work projects. Watching vintage westerns is way better than watching the news any day!

  16. I'm so impressed by the amount of energy you and LD have. What a blessing.
Cleaning up the porch sounds like a huge project, but the finished product looks very beckoning.
