It was a beautiful Sunday and a really good day all day long!
We both slept so well last night - and sleeping well makes all the difference.
We each had one cup of coffee while we listened to some gospel music from Jessie Dixon before we headed down to do our Critter Chores.
I am wary when I go in the peacock pen. Dean keeps a trash can lid by one of the doors to use as protection from the male should he feel aggressive that day.
Apparently he was in a good mood today.
This chicken had more nerve than I!
There are 11 occupied hen houses and one mean bad rooster!
That's Emu! I tried to avoid having to reach in an unhook the feeder can by putting some feed in a heavy shallow dish. NOPE! He wasn't having that! He marched right over and stood in the dish kicking the feed out all the while that little hen was trying to get a bite or two. He just pecked at her every time she tried! Louis Dean was wearing gloves so he came back there and unhooked the feeder, I filled it and then I used a long thin piece of PVC pipe to hold Emu back so he could rehang the feeder. Whew!! Got that done!
The peacock and Emu are the only real challenge.
These fluffy ladies are sweet.
So are the girls in this pen.
Love the hairdo!
We came back up to the camper cabin and I fixed biscuits, bacon and the freshest eggs for our breakfast. We did our reading and then Louis Dean went to Waco to get a part to fix the leaky valve at the water down by the duck pen.
Speaking of reading - after reading Gods and Generals - we opted for something a little more light hearted. This is HILARIOUS!!!!
I'm telling you I had tears running down my face from laughing so hard.
And the more I laughed - the more I laughed!
Every time we stop for a rest break or a tea break - I read another chapter.
What a funny gal Fannie Flag is!
I happened to look out the bathroom window and saw two of the baby goats.
They are not really babies anymore!
One of my favorite things about being here is seeing all the critters around.
While Louis Dean was gone to town I decided to soak my feet while I based in the rest of two more
'Wonky Donkeys' and my friend, Carole, calls them.
I had all the fixings for a pedicure!
I took a break from those donkeys and painted some ragged sunflowers on a colander for my Sister Luann.
I still need to add a few details.
And I'm thinking of adding a few Lady Bugs.
Louis Dean did indeed fix the leak and we are back in business with water to the bathroom again.
We did the evening chores and I walked over to look at our bee boxes.
Sherry and I will suit up one day this week and inspect the hives.
I love our country days here at the ranch.
Life seems so much simpler here.
Cooking simple meals.....tonight I had pinto beans with some leftover rice added to the pot and a pan of sweet cornbread and sliced onions.
We ate at the table in the front room where I paint.
I just put down fresh newspaper and added place mats.
Louis Dean soaked his feet while we ate and then I gave him a pedicure.
Funny, he never wants color!!
This has been my favorite day here so far this trip.
I have the radio turned to Shooter FM - Young Guns and Legends.
Louis Dean is on the front porch with a glass of wine waiting for me.
Twice today he has said, "Linda, I really like you."
You know what?
Happiness is a real good feeling!
What a great post. So glad for your country times! <3
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful refreshing time you are having. I wish it could be like this all the time for you. The colander is awesome, I love it. If I saw it in a store, I would buy it.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda
ReplyDeleteLaughing and Happiness.
Another wonderful day.
Hugs.

Linda, I like this post. Just that it's some fun times for you and LD.I like how well you two work together. Pretty colander for your sister. used to have a foot tub like that but sold it at a yard sale...I think those tubs should be deep enough to help our ankles. So too me it was worthless. That blasted rooster was acting like a tyrant. Hope you have a beautiful day there. Blessings, xoxo, love you, Susie
ReplyDeletep.s. look up the Wonky Donkey song on line, you and LD will love it.
Good grief! You take you life into your hands to feed the critters! 😳
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you and Louis Dean, who likes you, are getting some quality sleep down on the ranch!
your life... losing it! 😀
ReplyDeleteLittle things make such a big difference. I love the painted colander. It might be something I'll have to try out. So bright and cheerful. Sadly I gave one away the look just like the one in you picture, now I'll have to keep an eye out for another one. I like the idea of painting something that can also be used and would make a grate kitchen decoration.. It's nice you enjoy the simpler life. It can be very peacoefilled and restful. Watch out for those bullies in the pins there, maybe carry a big broom.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet thing for LD to tell you!
ReplyDeleteWe’ve had a mean rooster or two over the years! I’m not a fan of roosters.
Enjoy your time at the ranch!
Oh how I love that colander and yet some lady bugs would just pop! Critter care is full time and wouldn't like to have to deal with the mean ones but so it goes. Glad LD came to your rescue.
ReplyDeleteI like your wonky donkeys a lot but that colander is special. love it... super idea. glad the leak is fixed and you survived death by fowl play. ha ha.. the two fowls would have to GO one way or the other if I were feeding them..enjoyed your day on the farm, and wish you many more.
ReplyDeleteOh Linda, your last sentence made tears come to my eyes..
ReplyDeleteLD saying he really Likes you...those are honest, loving words that go right to the heart.
On another subject I can see a painting in the offing...The chicken with the "DO"
What a painting or notecard she would be....
Ladybugs on the colander would be a wonderful finishing touch.
Glad your water is fixed.
Now go and enjoy your glass of wine...
Sue
Wonderful post and pictures! That sunflower colander is so cute!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY! Have a great day! I'm sure LD will treat you like a princess. Cheers
ReplyDeleteOkay - the thing I am shocked about are those peacocks - where did you get them from?
