I woke up Wednesday morning and decided to open up the back door so I could hear the birds sing.
I went out to the kitchen to get my first cup of coffee (Louis Dean had a restless night and ended up in the guest room and was finally sound asleep) ......
I went out to the kitchen to get my first cup of coffee (Louis Dean had a restless night and ended up in the guest room and was finally sound asleep) ......
.....and when I came back to the bedroom, all my mirrors were fogged up!
It was already 80 degrees outside and talk about high humidity!!
I shut the door and turned the AC back on!
I had my second injection for my knee early Tuesday afternoon.
No cortisone shot this time so no headache!
They use a machine to show exactly where to put the needle and spray a LOT of numbing gel before inserting said needle. I guess I have grown up because needles don't bother me nearly as much as they used to.
Back home and back to work.
Louis Dean continues to work on digging a ditch for the French drains alongside the gazebo.
He must do that part before he puts the gazebo back up.
I'm looking forward to getting that extra room back.
It's been in sad shape since late last fall.
We finally retired the dilapidated two chairs and are looking for replacements.
The two Cracker Barrel rockers are still good but not comfortable enough for us - so we will use them as visitor seating. I'm itching to get the gazebo back up and decorated!
I've been cooking everyday lately.
Back in the 1970's I read a tip in one of the Women's Day magazines.
They suggested you cut up and cook an onion while you prepare dinner.
The smell alone is comforting and let's the family know a meal is in the making.
I thought about that memory as I cooked some chopped onion, celery and herbs last night in preparation of some chicken and dressing I was making.
Right on cue, Louis Dean smelled it cooking and said, "Whatever you are making for dinner - I know it's gonna be GOOD!"
While the casserole was in the oven, we took our cocktails outside to the driveway.
Today (Thursday) was our day to get our pedicures.
We go to Lovely Nails on Beltline and they are wonderful!!
I wanted to get a pic of Louis Dean and he wasn't having it!
Until.......
.....all the ladies joined him and then he was all smiles and posing like a movie star!
He does love attention!
Have I mentioned how much we love this place and the people who make it so special??
Well, it's worth saying it again!
Back home and back to work!
Louis Dean back outside and I inside.
Today was baking day in anticipation of my going to the nursing home tomorrow.
I love this cookie recipe and have not made it in a long time.
I started making it in 1992 and always date my recipes.
I loved seeing Amber and Benjamin's name where they recorded baking these in 1994.
Amber was 9 and Benjamin was 6.
Sweet memories.
They turned out so good!
The butterscotch chips just made them that much better!
While the cookies baked I started on the first of several quilts i need to do over the next few weeks.
Along about 5:30 we called it quits on working, cleaned up and headed out to a softball game!
Doesn't he look handsome??
We have not been able to make very many of the quads' ballgames this season and missed most of their hockey games so we were really glad to be able to attend a double header tonight!
Amber and Mike are amazing parents and I loved seeing them in action!
Mike had just returned from a business trip to San Francisco and jumped right in from arriving at the airport right to the game. As always, Amber is the totally prepared Team Mom. She had cold cubed watermelon for all the players as well as the friends and family who were at the game. Plus cold packs for the heat, snacks and water all around. I brought a container of cookies for the family and a tin of four different kinds of snack crackers mixed - cheese and white cheddar and pretzel and more.
Both sets of grandparents were in attendance and we all had a great time together.
Sweet photo of Granddad and two of the girls......
You probably know who they are!
And a last photo of me with the third one!!
We are home now and it's nearly 11:00 and I have dinner sitting on the stove.
It's a glorified Hamburger Helper dish and all I have to do is make the garlic toast to go with it.
Louis Dean has been working on a new love song in the music room until I say it is time to eat.
And it's that time!!!
I know where Amber gets her mom skills! Sleep well!!
ReplyDeleteMike and Amber do seem like fantastic parents. I wish I could find your energy. I truly believe that you do twice as much in a day as I do.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Carol. I don't know how you do all that you do in a day. Hope your knees are feeling better. I'm going to have to do something with mine soon. And I love that you get a pedicure together. Have a great day today!
ReplyDeleteIt is going to be hot here as well his weekend. We will be at Grimmwood so we may be sitting under the AC instead of on the porch. My sister and I are hoping to hit up some antique shops on Saturday. Hope that knee feels better after your injection.
ReplyDeleteOh Amber sounds like the most amazing prepared mom ever! I have never seen that level of care at any of my grandsons’ games.
ReplyDeleteYes, you and Louis Dean are adorable. Glad that you are getting used to needles. Wish I were! Been having lots of them lately. Guess that when the knee responds well, it is worth it!
One day, I am going to join you in having a pedicure. 😉
The cookies sound so good...may have to round up some butterscotch chips.
Wow Linda, that's some humidity! I love that onion tip, it works here too. Most of the meals I make have onions, and Alex reacts the same way, especially if I cook them in butter! :) Butterscotch chips! :) I love those!!! :)
ReplyDeletethe humidity is killing me here and it is not even June.. 5 more months of it getting hotter and higher every day. this week end will be killer heat/humidity. ha ha on give the Guest the uncomfy rockers. they will not stay as long. I know you are both missing your gazebo..

ReplyDeleteI love rockers but always thought the cracker barrel ones didn't fit my body right. Too short and squat for them.
Busy as always but I love your attitude and wanting to be a part of your family's lives.
Yes onions can be the cure all for things. Hubby says the same thing..Smells good ...
Now I'm hungry too.
I love going to the girl's games, and I know you do, too! I always bring a snack! If I enlarge your picture, I think I can see the recipe good enough to make the cookies!!
ReplyDeleteLinda, you are a natural born writer, I absolutely adored the photos and stories, you have a beautiful life , keep posting.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to show my Dh of louis Deans visit to the nail spa!
