My heart was much lighter today!
Louis Dean woke up this morning like his normal self!
All happy and energetic.
I woke up in the girl bunk to the sound of voices outside my window.
It was nearly 3:00 AM when I finally fell asleep.
Not too bad since it was 1:30 when I went to bed.
I turned the water on to fill the camper reservoir about 10:30.
I sat at the table in the front room cutting the denim squares out while it filled - which takes less than 15 minutes. However, I started paying more attention to writing last night's journal post and then making plans and looking at maps regarding our trip to visit Bev and Brian who live in Canada just a couple of hours away from the Idaho border - that I forgot all about the water. I never heard the gallons upon gallons pouring out and running on the ground and then down the side of the road.
As I was turning the lights off in the camper before I went to bed - I finally remembered!!!
I traipsed out there on the now muddy ground with my sparkly black house shoes on and turned the water off.....and then followed the flow to see how far it went. By this time it was nearly half way to the goat pen! I was ever so thankful I had turned it off before I went to bed or it would have been all the way past Dean and Sherry's house heading to the creek along the eastern edge of their property!
I went to bed dreading having to tell them what I had done.
Then I woke up to those voices!
The water reservoir is right under the girl bunk. They had seen the dark water edge along the road and came up to investigate what they thought would be a broken water pipe.
I flew up out of that bunk like my hair was on fire!
One look in the mirror showed a mad woman so I slapped a cap on my head and grabbed a pair of sunglasses as I lurched out the door and raced around the camper.
Dean was already hiking across the field to where the water meter is located.
I yelled out really loud, "Hey!! I left the water on last night!!!!"
Bless their hearts. They weren't mad or anything. They were just glad there wasn't a water break.
I explained myself and apologized and before I staggered back to bed, Louis Dean suggested we stay an extra day! Sherry was wanting to go to a beekeeper's meeting at the college in Waco tonight and he knew I would want to go, too! Win! WIN!!! 'One more day' are three of my favorite words!
When I got up the sky was beautiful and it was another hot day but not quite 100!!
Later when I went down to invite Sherry to eat dinner with us (Dean was teaching a Karate class) we stopped by the peacock pen and I met the new male. Sherry said, "Watch this."
He ate right out of her hand!
This is the peahen and she is sitting on a nest of eggs.
We're not sure how many but we are all hoping for some baby peacocks!
We left the guys here at the ranch and we drove to Waco for the meeting.
Sherry has been interested in beekeeping for the better part of this whole year.
Before the meeting started - and after it finished -
there was a honey tasting.
Oh, my goodness!
I had no idea how different the honey taste.
It depends on what flowers the bees choose.
Some honey is dark - some are light.
Every single one tasted different.
It rained in Mart and at the ranch while we were gone.
When I got out of the truck to open the gate, I caught a wonderful fragrant whiff of country hay mixed with rain! Probably my favorite smell in all the world!
It was the sweetest gift of this day......right after seeing Louis Dean feeling so much better!
We go home tomorrow!
This time I mean it!
Hey! No goats were drowned!! It's okay. You are fortunate to have such a great son and daughter!!💗
ReplyDeleteI am so glad Louis Dean is back to his spry and perky self!! Love the peacock, what a gorgeous bird! I've just started collecting them the past year, I think they are so pretty. The bee keepers looks interesting, and wow!! you can't go wrong if you get to taste HONEY!! yum Safe travels back home, y'all!! IT'S ALMOST YOUR DAY LINDA!!!!! SEPTEMBER MORNING!!!! Gettin so close..........get out the sunflowers and THE NEIL DIAMOND!!
ReplyDeleteLinda, Yikes, that was a close one, with the overflow. So good to see LD looking happy with a thumbs up. I know that took a load off your heart. Sherry is a Jill of all trades...now thinking of beekeeping. Wow, that peacock is gorgeous. We had rain this morning and may really be in for scary rain later. I am actually praying it dissipates. I do not like heavy flooding rains. I know you need some there in your area. Take care , safe trip home. Your favorite month is so near now Linda, I will certainly be thinking of you and Neil Diamond. :):) You have me listening to him sing again. :) Blessings to you, xoxo, love, Susie
ReplyDeleteWe enjoy our bees but it has been challenging. We had a swarm where half of them just flew off. We battle ants and beetles. We did go ahead and order a new hive for the spring and we hope between the two hives we will get some honey. I think it would be better if we were there all the time to check on them. My favorite honey is the dark honey. That is the kind I remember from my childhood. Wish we could have attended that class with yall.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that LD feels better and it's a good thing you decided to stay...more time to get things in order before you go. We had bee hives when my kids were growing up and it was neat working with the bees and getting the honey. A lot of work though! lol Hugs!
ReplyDeletemy heart lifted right up at the LD collage at the beginning. so glad he is looking his old self. oh no on the water, so nice they did not get upset. I am terrified of turkeys and peacocks and chickens to so no eating from my hand... I love honey, it is how I feed my sweet tooth since I gave up sugar. but I can't have more than 1 or 2 tablespoons every few days... yum on the honey tasting.
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to hear that Louis Dean is feeling better. Except for the water event sounds like a good time there and worth another day spent in the country. Take care and have a good trip home to the city.
ReplyDeleteThat was such a scare with leaving the water running but I will tell you, I’m so glad I’m not the only one to do stuff like that lol, I’m also so glad your hubby is feeling better and what a beautiful bird, I sure hope they have successful eggs, I love peacocks,
ReplyDeleteI have learned to leave myself a note if I have water on somewhere because I will forget it:) So glad LD is feeling better and you had another good day.
ReplyDeleteThe extra day made things so much better for everyone ! Hugs.

I am so glad Louis Dean is back to his normal self now!! He looks really happy! I would have probably done the same thing that you did with the water. You have to do SOMETHING while it runs, then you get so involved that you forget. Your clouds and brilliant blue sky shot is beautiful! Is Sherry going to get some bee hives? It is so much fun honey tasting! At Christmas time, Trader Joe's has a boxed assortment of about eight different honeys in tiny glass bottles. I have given them as Christmas presents and everyone loves them! There is actually a certain kind of honey that doctors use in hospitals to put on burn patients, it really helps them to heal. T6hank you so very much for your kind words on my blog today. It made my day!!
ReplyDeleteAhhh, all’s well that ends well...
ReplyDeleteI am glad Dean felt better today. That honey tasting looked very interesting. Be careful and don't get stung - lol!
ReplyDeleteI'm so relieved with you that Louis Dean is better today. Oh my! Leaving the water on! I did that once, too and oh my goodness, I can see you jumping up out of the bed to make your explanations! Yikes! Yummy honey.
ReplyDeleteI have left my sprinkler running twice this summer. Once I had to call a neighbor to turn it off. It happens!
ReplyDeleteCan't have your L. D. not feeling well. I am glad he is better.
Very pleased that LD is himself. and isn't it great to be able to be spontaneous and stay another day. Cheers
