It's Country Time!

We left the city around 2:00 this afternoon and drove all the way to Hillsboro without stopping.
It's not that far, Folks, just 63 miles but we tend to stop a lot. Potty breaks, tea at QT and maybe a stop for fuel.

Not today! We made straight for the Lonestar Cafe for a late lunch or early dinner.
The servings were so big that we brought enough home for a light supper.

After we left Waco we were on country roads!

Made a quick run into Read's Grocery in Mart for milk and bananas plus a few other things that Louis Dean kept putting in the buggy......Hot Pockets, frozen burritos that were on sale, a package of chicken legs..... aka drumsticks!

We took the scenic road to the ranch......
since this is right beside the Dollar store, we call it the Dollar Store Road.
It's not a good road but it is a pretty one.

We were searching for wildflowers.
This area has not seen rain in a long time and things are brown and crunchy.
This is so opposite to the conditions down here last year when everything was green and lush with lots and lots of flowers.
We spied a huge stalk of sunflowers so Louis Dean cut the whole thing down.

They went in the back since we didn't want the insects crawling all over us!

I'm worried about the corn...... it's green but the stalks close to the ground are brown.

Rain is in the forecast for the next 10 days, though.

While it's only a 10 - 20% chance tonight, Friday and Saturday, it increases to an 80 - 100% for Sunday and Monday with a  40 - 20 % chance for several days after that.

I love this view because I know we are nearly there!

Inside the gate and up the road to where it forks. Dean and Sherry go to the right and we go straight.
You can see the little white cottage way back there!

Ah! We are HERE!!! I made my Welcome Back Bouquet and we set to work unloading and putting up. We brought a lot of groceries with us from home this time. It doesn't take us long to settle in and we were out on the porch with our iced tea and listening to the sounds of the country.

Sherry came up to give us an update on the critters.
We are on Critter Duty this weekend.
They've lost another chicken and a duck but they have a few new baby chicks.

I went down later to give the goats some scraps.
I don't feel as guilty when I see spoiled or wasted food as the goats will eat anything.
I had some potatoes that were a little soft and cheese that was left in the fridge here last month.
They gobbled it all up!

This is BBQ.....

and Thumper......

and MiMi.

I think they were glad to see us!!!

Louis Dean and I sat on the porch and watched the stars come out and then searched for the tiny fingernail of a moon. The air softened and cooled after the sun went down and it is going to be 73 degrees tonight.

Louis Dean played music while I stitched on my Christmas needlework before starting tonight's journal entry. He just played his last song and I said I am on my last sentence!

It's so GOOD to be BACK!!!!

  1. Ahhhhh...life is good!

I had to stop a few times. :)) We never use the term supper, I really don't know what it is. We have breakfast, lunch and dinner. And I'm just talking about us up North!!! :) A buggy is a baby stroller. We put our groceries in a cart.

Isn't it odd...all these terms and dialects in one country? No right or wrong.

Enjoy your time in the country! I pray you get the rain you need.

  5. Linda, Such beautiful skies. So glad you are safely back at the ranch. Hope you have a great time. Stay hydrated .:):) I was talking about when the neighbors had goat and only gave them goat chow....not near enough So that time they were here, I fed them scraps, gnarly apples from their trees and all our chopped up pumpkins and even some of the mums when I trimmed them out. They would eat anything. They even ate part of the roof from their little house. But they were fun to watch. Blessings for all good days, xoxo, love you, Susie

  10. Those sunflowers are beautiful. It would be nice to save the seeds and plant some there around your country place. I've always loved them. They are so bright and cheerful. Hope you do get the need rain there. We are finally getting a break from it for a change and are enjoying some days of sunshine. I'm about to have a late breakfast of cereal and bananas here this morning. They alway seem to hit the spot. Hope you have a fantastic Friday !
