Gentle Peaceful Days.....

Summer needed some low key days to rest and recover from her Adventures with Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
Those two partied way too hard for her and she is still suffering from some PTSD.....

She and I dropped Louis Dean off at the dentist this morning for Visit #5 in the 8 scheduled visits to get his dental work done. He did the fist 3 in one sitting on Tuesday and he did all FIVE of the rest TODAY! He was in the chair from 10:00 this morning to 5:00 this afternoon!!! He wanted to get it over with and Dr. Joe agreed to it! He had one cavity and then several crowns. Like ALL of his teeth crowned. He was missing several and Dr. Joe made the crowns bigger to fill up some of the extra space. He just has to go back in a couple of weeks for the final visit.

Our first stop as at Starbucks. Just walking in the door and taking that first deep breath immediately puts you in a relaxed attitude! I ordered my first pumpkin spice latte of the season!
Summer is talking to her Aunt Luann on the phone. She had called and wanted to see Summer before she left Irving. We made plans to meet for lunch.

Next stop was Big Lots where I found all things pumpkin and lots and lots of goodies while Summer shopped for Rayne's school supplies. She starts on Monday back in her old school.
We shopped at Office Depot next for the supplies not found at Big Lots.
Then we headed to the Corner Bakery to meet Luann for lunch!

Summer sure enjoyed getting to visit and she says that her Aunt Luann gives the BEST hugs!
And believe me - Summer NEEDS some hugs after all she's been through!

We had fun!
Thank you, Luann, for treating us this afternoon!
We still have your leftovers to snack on tonight.....

From there we browsed through a few stores where Summer found more supplies and even a new wardrobe! WE were headed back home when the dentist office called to say Louis Dean was just about ready. We stopped at Sonic and picked him up a BIG chocolate milk shake since he had not eaten anything all day.

He was so cold he was practically shivering and, once we were home, I gave him a big fuzzy warm blanket. He watched a little TV and then asked me to fix him a Frito Pie.

That may have been a mistake.
He ate about half of it and decided to go to bed.
He has been feeling pretty miserable for about an hour but I think he's asleep now.
Hopefully he can sleep all night and wake up feeling better in the morning.

I stayed in the kitchen all evening.

I made a big chicken salad chopping up onions, hard boiled eggs, celery, and apples.

Then I went out to what's left of our garden and picked every last pepper I could find.

Three different kind!

I had enough for one big bottle of pepper sauce.

I think it looks so pretty and in about three weeks I will open the bottle and see how it tastes!
If it's really good - it will be a Christmas gift for someone special.

On to the Spiced Pumpkin Muffins!

I made a double batch!
Some for the family reunion on Saturday.
Some for Rayne Roo who loves them so much.
Some for the quads who love them also!
A few for us.....
and a few more to share with Kimmy and June soon.

That brings me to the end of this day.
Louis Dean is asleep and my work is done.
I think Summer and I are going out to the den and light some candles since we can't have a fire in the fireplace and watch some TV. TV has really helped Summer zone out and keep her mind off things.
We get one last night together.
However - she and Sabrina and Rayne will all three be going to the Family Reunion on Saturday so I will get to see them all again!!!!!

Oops! Louis Dean just came out of the bedroom and is fumbling around in the kitchen!
I gotta go check on what he's getting into!

  1. Wow, LD is tough! Most of my teeth are crowned but I did it over a period of years, not all in one day. That's a quick way to get rid of a chunk of money. Even with insurance dental work is expensive. I'm pleased to see Summer is making progress recovering. Seeing that pepper sauce reminds me there's not much better than cornbread with turnip greens and pepper sauce.

  2. Ack! I've only had one crown in my life and that was really hard, your poor hubby! I know it is none if our beeswax but does Summer have somewhere to live? Do they still own property there? So glad Rayne gets to go to her old school. Tough to start life in Puerto Rico and then to have to start life all over again.

  3. It is so good to see you and Summer together and smiling! Poor Louis Dean! At the very least, he must be so stiff and sore from sitting in that chair for so long. Those dental chair are awful on my neck. Maybe he should stick to soft foods for a dew days? Our dentist has a crown making machine in the office, so you do not have to go home with a temporary one. This must have been your best Starbucks visit EVER! I am so glad Summer got new clothes, that does so much to cheer a girl up!! I do hope it helps to take her mind off the trauma just a bit.

  5. I pray Summer and LD feel better soon. That's a lot of trauma for one day at the dentist, and for Summer, PTSD on top of her back issues-well, she's with mama as she should well be! That's almost as good as it gets.

I do find cooking and puttering in the kitchen relaxes me and gives me focus. What do you do with the pepper sauce-just curious.

    Sending hugs,

    Jane

  6. Your comment on my post about the Puerto Rican government was something I did not know. God can take bad things and bring something good out of them for those who love Him!! Phil just reminded me that he had pulled off the road for me to take the pictures, so I changed my blog to say that.

  7. Sounds like the kind of day both you and Summer needed. I would never spend all day in the dentist chair. I don't know how LD did it. He needs some pampering for a few days.

  8. MERCY!!--hope Louis Dean is feeling better today!--he sure did get the "works" for sure, all at once! I'm tickled to see Summer home and safe, how in the world she even relaxes enough to go to sleep at night at do not know, after what they went through. I'm just so glad they all made it safely home, I even showed yesterday's post to Mr. Front Porch because I was so happy for y'all AND BECAUSE I HAD TO SHOW HIM the beautiful black dog, the therapy/rescue dog? Not sure who it belongs to, but it's the almost exact identical twin to our Gypsy. The face, the ears, the tail, the color , the coat, everything. Our Gypsy is almost 16 now, and I read that makes her almost 94 or 95 in doggie years? She has lived a life of many travels and adventures for sure....lived up to her name! Anyway, I sure enjoyed seeing that pretty black dog and Mr. Front Porch wants to know how she did on that flight? I told him she has a vest or something on, so she is likely highly trained and very well mannered. Goodness that chocolate milkshake sure sounds good, I may just have to go out and get me one today! LOL

  9. PS--Gypsys mommy was a Border Collie and her Daddy was a black Lab.

  10. That long in the dentist's chair might require a strait jacket for me. Perhaps both Summer and Louis Dean are suffering some PTSD. Hope that he is feeling much better this morning, but I hope that as I peck out this comment everyone is sleeping restfully.

Is Rayne eager to return to school? I imagine that school will be about as normal as normal can be.

Ongoing prayers for all! What an exciting weekend to look forward to...

  11. There have been some big events in your life and those you love. I simply could not do that much dental work in one day..surprised they would do that especially with age as a factor. Be careful with that. Prayers to Summer for needed rest...

  12. What a lovely relaxing day you all had except for the one with the dental work...I'm sure his mouth wasn't feeling so great after having all that done...but he must have been starving. Your family really has something special to celebrate so I'm sure that's going to make for a very happy family reunion this year!

  13. Linda, OMG....poor LD....that had to be like pure torture to be at the dentist all live long day. It sure would be for me. I sure pray he does okay.
Sweet Summer...so glad she has a family to love her and comfort her. I just can't imagine how frightening those storms were. I wish you all blessings for this coming weekend. Please hug everyone for me. I am missing the quads too. May God bless you Linda...you have the best caring heart. xoxo, love, Susie

I need new dentures and new implants and about the price of a used car will pay for it all. That is why I'm working 40 hours a week at a stressful job
