Louis Dean and I handed off the reins to Mike's parents late Friday morning and headed home in chilly, damp fall weather. I was so EXCITED!!! I have been yearning for weather like this and as soon as we got in and unloaded, we slipped our heavy winter robes on over our clothes....
and went out to the gazebo! Ah.....bliss!
LD poured us some seriously large glasses of wine.......
and we put our feet up and enjoyed the moment!
I turned the attic fan as soon as I got in so that sweet fall air was flowing through the entire house whisking away the stale smell of an empty home.
This made for some excellent sleeping weather and I was tired to the bone.
I went to bed around 4:30 and slept for 5 hours! I only got up to eat something and went right back to bed until 9:30 Saturday morning! Should I admit that I slept in my clothes all night and wore them into the next day? I didn't even take my make up off!! Over 15 hours of sleep and I was STILL tired so I rested most of Saturday. My only accomplishments were filling our medicine boxes and paying bills. That is unless I count the chapters I read in September and the Scrabble and Words With Friends games I played. And the naps I took.
Logan sent me home with notes and new drawings to hang up.
She tells me, "This is so you can remember me!"
As if I could possibly forget her!!!
It's true that we were so tired when we got home I could barely stand up straight and my feet left like I would need pillows to walk on. Still, we sat and talked about the kids and all the cute things they did. Did you know not ONE of them had a meltdown, got in trouble or had to be reprimanded last week??
I think that is just amazing! They are FOUR years old! God really blessed us and them and their parents with a good week!
One other little chore I did was to stitch up the small holes and tears in their critters.
I think they think that MeeMaw can fix anything!
Their mommy used to think the very same thing!
She probably still does!
Finally, late on Saturday afternoon, I took a long hot shower and washed my hair.
I was wanting to add some fragrance after I put on my nightgown and dabbed what I thought was a small vial of perfume at my throat and pulse points. Hmmmm.....smelled really strong!
I looked closer and I had used an essential oil - pine!
For the rest of the night I smelled just exactly like a Christmas Tree!
We went to bed early knowing that we need to get as much rest as possible before we return for Round #2 in Quadville this week.
And sure enough - all that rest and extra sleep kicked in and I woke up feeling much better and more like my old self. Louis Dean cranked up the gospel music and we got ready and went to church!
There's a magic moment every Sunday when I sit down in the pew, bow my head and say a prayer of thanksgiving. I hope I go to church every Sunday for as long as I live.
Louis Dean had the bright idea of eating at Arby's for lunch!
That turned out great because I went to bed for a nice long nap just as soon as we got home.
We watched The Dallas Cowboys play and I sorted my make up and refilled my toiletry bag that I leave at Amber's. I like to multi-task!
The games are almost always more fun to watch when we WIN!!
This morning as we were getting ready to go to church, I noticed these Spider Lilies.
Last weekend when Dean, Sherry and I were hitting up the garage sales in Mart, we saw several varieties of these in the yards there. I think they are an old fashioned kind of bulb. These have been coming up every fall since I have lived here - now some 50 years!
Tomorrow evening we will return to Quadville!
Amber and Mike are having a wonderful time and that just makes me so happy!!!
I hope Amber doesn't mind me using her pretty photo!
Aloha!!!
I'm glad you got some rest. Sleeping is wonderful when you wake up refreshed. I must admit to taking naps since I retired last year. Your cooler weather must feel great. Glad it finally got to you.
ReplyDeleteGetting a little bit of that piney woods fragrance on you, huh? It's good to get a rest, put your feet up and just relax. We enjoyed that wonderful rain here, too. Ahhhh, so refreshing to have fall.
ReplyDeleteAmber is just so pretty. And those dimples!! And such a great mom and organizer. I have not seen this kind of spider lily. Perfect for Halloween! So you use essential oils. Many in our family do. They have cured things that even drugs could not.
ReplyDeleteGlad you caught up on your rest, sometimes you just have to do that. The kids obviously are well adjusted behaving so well without Mom and Dad around. Fingers and toes crossed round 2 goes as smoothly
ReplyDeleteI love how you all help each other out! Those quads are special. I'm glad that Mike and Amber are able to have a great vacation!
ReplyDeleteI am still laughing right out loud about you rubbing pine oil on yourself. That is SO something I would do! lol
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are home and can unwind, rest and relax a bit. I know you loved every moment of it but I also know it is exhausting.
Love the last picture-she is a pretty, pretty girl. xo Diana
I laughed and laughed about the pine! The kiddos are so lucky to have someone stitch up the critters❤️😃
ReplyDeleteOh, you described the exhaustion so well, Linda. And again, I think we are so alike. I can be dead tired...sleep a ton, get up, clean up and fall back in bed for another few hours. Funny, my head says, "I still don't have all of that sleep out of me!"
ReplyDeleteI know kids can wear us out, I think my fatigue is my meds and looks like I may be taking them until March. I know, terrible. No one better complain about my sleep needs, I happen to believe that I do more in my 'awake hours' then some do in 16! And you, too!
Love and hugs,
Jane
Glad you're rested up and ready to go to Quadville for another week. I had Spider lillies in my yard in Texas. Someone before me planted them but they came up and bloomed every year the 30 years we lived at that address. How did LD feel about you smelling like a pine tree? A woman that can operate a needle and thread is more precious than jewels.

ReplyDeletePretty photo of Amber, she is beautiful! Did LD comment on you smelling like a Christmas tree? You are so cute and funny and you make me laugh! Enjoy your rest and be refreshed for another round #2! Take care and have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a blessing to be so involved in your grandchildren's lives. You are both just amazing at the time and energy and LOVE you give these children! It took both of us to take care of one child and labrador for a week...best of luck this week. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteLinda, So glad you and LD rested. You must have needed it. I love that the children sent drawings with you. I like the smell of pine candles so I would have thought you smelled good. LOL Hope you all do well this week also. Blessings, love all you guys, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteOh Linda! I did laugh when I read you dabbed the pine essential oil behind your ears! So funny. Very glad you caught up on some sleep, sounds like you needed it. The quads are incredibly well behaved, such a credit to Amber and Mike, and of course Meemaw and Grandpa too! X
ReplyDeleteSo glad you rested a lot! I'm sure Mike and Amber are doing the same and enjoying every minute! The kids are amazing and so well behaved. Have a wonderful week and kinda check out what you're using as a fragrance! :)

ReplyDeleteSo glad you had a chance to rest and recover. Your attitude is always contagious!
ReplyDeleteAll that and you even made it to church! Fantastic. I laughed to think of you slapping on pine essential oils and smelling like a Christmas Tree. What a hoot! I have fallen into bed in my clothes before and worn them into the next day. Doesn't everybody? LOL That is a wonderful picture of Amber. Glad that they are having a great vacation.
ReplyDeleteI know how tired you must be...but knowing you ...today you are taking it all in stride and enjoying every moment:)...hugs
ReplyDeleteThe lilies are gorgeous-- I have never seen anything like that here. Good for you for resting and recharging-- your family is so blessed to have you.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a wonderful rest. Sounds delightful on the gazebo. I wish it would cool down a little.
