Life has returned to normal for us - more or less. Today Louis Dean actually felt GOOD!
He had his pre op appointment this morning and he was a big boy about it and went all by himself!
Only his blood pressure was a concern and he may have to go in and have it rechecked before surgery. That shouldn't be a problem. He didn't taken his medicine before he left this morning. That's what I get for leaving him on his own.
While we had coffee and reading, Maddie was supervising from her throne on the baby grand piano. She can see everything from there!
I went out to check the bird feeders and found that the top was off of this one and a dove had fallen inside when I opened the front door.
Ah, I felt so sorry for it!
I called for Louis Dean to come help him get out.
Poor bird was injured and I don't think it was from being in the feeder.
There's no sharp points that would have caused this.
We got him out and Louis Dean held him in a soft rag until he calmed down.
I hope he made it. He was gone when we went back out to check on him later.
I finally started back to my exercise program today.
It was gratifying that I am still able to do all the poses.
Lunch was potato salad and a really good ham sandwich!
I follow the Noble Pig on Facebook and find so many of her recipes are right up my alley!
Instead of peach preserves - I used apricot! It's what I had!
This afternoon I made a batch of Amish Sugar Cookies and they are DELICIOUS!!
Recipe is from Noble Pig (on Facebook) via The Taste of Home!
1 cup softened butter
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup sugar
1 cup confectioners sugar
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
4 1/2 cups flour
1 t. soda
1 t. cream of tartar
Beat the first 4 ingredients. Beat in eggs. Beat in vanilla. Combine dry ingredients and add gradually to creamed mixture. Drop by small teaspoons on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 375* 8-10 min.
Makes 5 dozen
All in all it has been such a nice Monday!
Louis Dean and I both enjoy the 'little things' of life.
My daughter, Summer, has been in Puerto Rico on vacation!
I picked her up at the airport this evening and it is so good to know she had such a good time and is now back home!! A mother hen likes to know all her chicks are safely in the nest!
We stopped at Sonic for drinks and fries and she showed me all her photos.
More often than not, it's the little things that make life so enjoyable!
A great day. I hope LD will be fine---very scary for all I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteStaying on top of the right foods...so hard. Thanks for the recipe. I always love seeing the meals you make and have!
I know how you feel about the babes out of the nest. Mine are pretty close but I still lose sleep over them.

Yes, it is the little things that make like sweet. Love your photos of Maddie, and (is it Lucy??) Such comforts of home. Molly is laying by my chair as I type.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the cookie recipe. I was going to make peanut butter cookies tomorrow, but now I will make sugar cookies. Yumm.
I had a similar event with a injured sparrow in our yard of North...I did the same as Louis Dean, and it stayed a day, and then it was gone.
Saying prayers for LD surgery and speedy recovery with no complications. Sending love and hugs your way.
Linda, I am glad that Louis Dean is feeling better. I will keep him in my prayers. Your lunch looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about that cookie recipe. Now I know I have to make it. Ad the cheese sandwich too.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great day. Glad things are moving right along for LD. He will be in pain afterwards but it will all be worth it in the end when he is finally pain free!
Always the little things Linda XX
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree with you more, Linda. :)
ReplyDeleteYour food all looks so yummy. I've been cooking some too but need to reign in my desire for dessert.
I bet the bird was a-ok and thanks to Louis Dean for rescuing the dove.
Oh that poor darling Dove....what could have happened? Another thing to worry about.....sugar cookies look and sound amazing!!! Will say a prayer for the surgery!
ReplyDeleteSo true Linda....I love days at home, just piddling around with this and that.
ReplyDeletei am with you on loving the little things in life and so glad LD is feeling good again.. and that you can still do your excercies. i see Bill the TS is headed your way today, hope the rain passes by without damage. sweet little doves are really dumb, we call them do do birds... they are so trusting.
ReplyDeleteAlways... It is exhausting to go from one mountaintop to the next. Glad that Summer had a great vacation and that all went well with Louis Dean's appt. minus that one little point. =D
ReplyDeleteLinda, I read a quip once that said, "Look to the little things for one they may be the big things"..I think it's true. Glad your Summer is back . So praying for LD to have a smooth surgery and quick recovery. You know you will have to watch him like a hawk....cause he doesn't like to sit still. LOL. Nice that you both had a pretty relaxing day. Believe me all of us are in my prayers with that storm "Bill" coming thru. Too much rain . Bless you dear friend, love you, Susie
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more! I just started back to doing yoga too! It felt SO good. It had been a long time since doing it and I really needed it. I use a DVD as well. The cookies you made look good. I love simple cookies like that too. Hope everything goes well with LD regarding his surgery.
ReplyDeleteAs I read your post, I saw a mama bird taking care of her eggs in a basket on our porch. I certainly hope that bird was ok, but sadly in nature when an animal is injured it often doesn't fare well.
ReplyDeleteI will keep your hubby in my thoughts and wish for him an uneventful surgery and a speedy and full recovery.
Oh no....poor dove. Glad it made a recovery and managed to fly off.
ReplyDeleteA speedy recovery to your husband
Yep it's the little things. Glad the check up went well except for the elevated blood pressure. Must take his meds. I've also noticed that lack of sleep affects mine.
ReplyDeleteGlad Summer is home and safe. Hope she had a good time
