We slept a little on the late side before having coffee and reading out under the awning.
,
These long, slow, easy days are so good for us!
After we read - it was nap time!
I woke up and Louis Dean had made a camp fire.
There was standing water under all that wood but it's dry now!
I can tell Louis Dean is feeling better because he is doing little projects here and there.
His son had a project this afternoon. He killed a chicken snake that was by the hen house.
Pretty long one, too!
There are loads of blackberry bushes up around the tanks and the berries are just getting ripe!
I may be going berrying tomorrow!
This is the little tank and our camping spot beyond.
This is the big tank! There is still so much to see and do here - we've only just begun!
This country living is quite agreeable to us. So much so that at 9:00 - we're ready to go to bed!
Happy Mothers Day!
ReplyDeleteWhen you said "chicken snake" I was thinking "Chicken fried Steak" HaHa
ReplyDeleteYou are really in the country. So glad you and Louis Dean are getting that needed rest. Our Mother's Day Church service was exceptional. Just love our Pastor and he share on HOW to honor your mother. It was really good.
Then off to Julie's for BBQ Chicken, mashed potatoes and roasted corn on the cob.
And my "marble" cupcakes (I posted my story of that today).
All in all....it's been a ridiculously amazing Weekend.
I'm so glad you're having a special down time in the country. It's a wonderful time when you can just rest your mind and body. Enjoy, you deserve this time for you & Louis Dean .
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are having a relaxing time X
ReplyDeleteRelaxing days...bet you can feel the stresses just slip away. May all the obnoxious weather stay far away. Praying temperate weather and sunny days for you!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are living the life Linda!!
ReplyDeletewoo hoo on country living. i guess that snake was headed to find the eggs or a chicken or two... love that campfire. is it hot or cold where you are? i hope you are not anywhere near that horrible weather that is passing through your state.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day, Linda. I love days that I can relax and unwind with my hubby, too. I wish we had more of them.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a lovely week... :)
This is the way life should be once we're retired! Glad you're enjoying and hope you're both getting some much needed rest.

I love blackberries, we have to wait until August to pick them here on Vancouver Island. I still have a couple containers left in the freezer from last summer - plus a huge bunch of blackberry jam. I've been using the frozen ones lately in smoothies - yummy!
ReplyDeleteThe countryside is so pretty...I miss camping! Looks so peaceful. The snake is frightening...do these sort eat chickens? I've never seen anything but a water snake at the lake, they are huge but harmless...you should be more afraid of the snapping turtles!
ReplyDeleteJane x
I'm with Cheapchick-- I can't imagine blackberries at this time of year. In a good year we have lots of wild ones to make cakes with in August. Sounds like you are really enjoying your rural adventures!
ReplyDeleteYour picture of the fire...the wagon looks like it is on top of the woodpile getting ready to burn. Pretty cool effect! One snake less is always a good thing. Especially when there are chickens around!
ReplyDeleteInteresting about your different timing of blackberries. They're an autumn fruit with us.
ReplyDeleteUrgh - that snake! Do they really eat chickens??
Oooh, I can't cope with the idea of snakes. We don't have any in NZ at all. Cheers from Carole's Chatter
ReplyDeleteI've been away from the computer for the weekend and I wondered if you'd made it to the ranch. So glad to see you have. Enjoy your time. I'm looking forward to reading all about it.
ReplyDeleteLinda, Glad you and LD are doing so well. You surely could make something out of a snake that big. Belt, purse, Pair of shoes. LOL I am surprised LD didn't b-b-q it. Take care of each other. Think of me tomorrow, I am getting my stomach scoped. Bless you, love, susie
