I love waking up to bird song and am so grateful we have a back door in our bedroom that opens onto a stone patio. One day that 'Sanford and Son' area will be cleaned up so I can take a picture of it! Soon. Very soon.
As is my custom, I tend to sleep late. The first thing I do when I open my eyes is pray my morning prayers. We are currently reading a book titled 'Extreme Prayer.' While I am not the best prayer warrior there is - I am trying to become a better one!
The next thing I do is click open my iPad. If I'm lucky, I may have a message from my sister, Deanie!
We tend to communicate early in the day and then again late at night.
After that I check my blog for comments and then I look at the photos from time hop.
I would have remembered that today is the 6th anniversary of Louis Dean having a heart attack even without the time hop reminder!
I posted the status from 5 years ago along with this:
I am forever grateful to the Lord for placing Louis Dean in my life! He is the kindest and sweetest man I have ever met and I love him dearly! Today he is still heart healthy and that is as it should be! He is such a GOOD HEARTED man!
I am so blessed!!!
About all I accomplished this morning after we had coffee and did our reading was make a treat for my doctor and his staff.
Ritz crackers with peanut butter.....
dipped in melted peanut butter chips!
Just add a teaspoon of shortening to the chips and melt on low heat in a saucepan.
YUMMY!!!
In keeping with being REAL......the pumpkin chips did NOT melt so well. Nor did the butterscotch ones but that one was MY fault. I added butter instead of the shortening.
The BEST thing to use is white chocolate bark. Easy peasy. Melts in the microwave.
I got a good report from my doctor - it was just a follow up visit.
Still, a good report is a GOOD thing!!
I was a quick change artist as soon as I got home this afternoon!!!
Put on my work clothes and went out in the back to sack up debris from the flower beds and around the yard. Lots of work to be done in the spring!
We planted this Citronella plant yesterday and we are hoping it keeps the mosquitoes away from the gazebo. We don't have a lot of insect problems here since we have so many birds and geckos and other critters that eat them!
A magical moment happened this afternoon.
I turned on the attic fan for the very first time this year!
I know! I KNOW!!!! It sucks in dust and pollen and even mayflies!!!
But it IS the sound of SPRING to me and I love it so!!!
We will be sleeping with it on tonight and I am so happy about that!
Best sleep in the world!
For supper tonight I made this recipe I saw on Facebook last week.
Sounded just like something Louis Dean would like.
It calls for an iron skillet making it a one pan meal.
I have a glass cook top so I browned the onion and pepper and garlic in a Teflon pan, added the tomatoes and seasonings and simmered it on the stove.
THEN I poured it into my trusty iron skillet and put the eggs in.
Served with a dollop of sour cream and chips and hot sauce - it was DELICIOUS!!
While I cooked - and cleaned - I am a multitasker!!! - Louis Dean was busy in the back yard.
Love the sounds and smells of a fire!!!
We are cleaning up the place!!!
Every Monday we start thinking about the quads coming on Wednesday.
He got out an easel I bought at Goodwill awhile back and fixed it up for them.
You gotta love a man who will fix a drooping strand of lights just because it's important to his wife!!!
I know I DO!!!
I stitched this little pillow back in 1983.
It had grown limp through the years so I added some more stuffing to it as I sat in the gazebo with Louis Dean.
In truth, we are ALL odd!
And I think that's just wonderful!!!!
Happy Monday...it's almost Spring! I planted Basil and Oregano today...
ReplyDeleteSo much fun to have a day when you can say that Spring has definitively arrived. She does the Hokey~Pokey around here. It was a day for counting blessings, too, I see. Louis Dean is such a blessing and I am glad that doctor put him back together again five (6?) years ago. Have fun tomorrow! Lunch, movie, shopping, painting...
ReplyDeleteOdd Works I really enjoy your posts Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYou had a good day today. Wish I could have slept in. And I know it's good when you put on the fan for the first time this season.
ReplyDeleteI saw your little treats when you posted them on fb and though they would be good with melted milk chocolate or chocolate chips. Might be trying it soon.
This is a good anniversary too. So glad LD is still here!
Linda, your photos are great, the food all looks very good. When I saw that Jif peanut butter, it reminded me that they no longer sell it here in Canada. I think the last time I saw it was well over 5 years ago. it is very good, glad you are enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteYou and Louis Dean are indeed blessed, sending you both a hug. :) Oh, and one for your dear mother, too.
It is so good to begin my day day with You, Linda! Looks like wonderful in Texas. Our Spring is here too but it is still 34F right now. So why call it Spring - well we have light! It is so great to have 12 hours of light per a day and forward to have more during the upcoming months! Like some of you readers might know in The northest parts of Finland during Summer the sun never leaves like it shines throughout the day and night. And during the hard times of Winter it never shines at all.
ReplyDeleteYou are inspiring me to get out and tidy up my garden Linda, and clear the way for some new planting. X
ReplyDeletewe are both blessed with good husbands and with the fact they survived heart attacks. Bob had 2 stints in 2002, the open heart by pass in 2007 and has been fine since. Thank you Lord for LD and Bob surviving.
ReplyDeleteSo thankful for LD good outcome after his heart attack! God has blessed you both!
ReplyDeleteSpring is here too!
Deanna
Linda, We have so much to be thankful for. Some times we can forget how many blessings there are n our lives. But good health is a major blessing. We have to take good care of ourselves. I am thankful you have your sweet man with today. My Teddy Bear had a heart episode at 48...I drove him to the hospital, they got the clot busters in him before it became a heart attack. He had a a95 % blockage in one artery and 17/20 in two more. He got a stent that day and has been on heart meds ever since. Although, it was not an attack, no damage, no high cholesterol ever...he takes meds just the same. I am thankful for him in my life too. Blessings to all of you, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteYou always leave me smiling...and inspired to get moving. It seems you mange to pack a lot into your days! Happy 6th anniversary to LD...a date to celebrate, for sure!
ReplyDeleteLovely skillet dish, LInda. Cheers from carole's Chatter
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful anniversary indeed!! Happy spring to you both!
ReplyDelete(The saying on your pillow made me smile!!) :D
Hi Linda...was so busy the last couple days, I've been slow to visit. But you know I hate missing a day of your life. I again, struck with the many things we have in common. My dearest has 5 bypasses 19 years ago, and since then 2 stints and a pace maker. I call him my sweet TIMEX as he just keeps on ticking. I know that we have a date with destiny, but he has broke the record in his family as his grandfather, father, brother and 2 nephews all have died of heart attacks before 50, and Don is 77. Every year is a bonus and we thank God for each day. We both have good men, Linda. I had a breakfast in a Mexican cafe that looks a lot like your yummy skillet dish.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week. Love and hugs.
Let me know how the mosquito plant works out.
ReplyDeleteHappy Spring to you but I sure wish the rain would come back another day
That skillet dinner looked yummy.
