This is our sweet Maddie!!!
This morning I woke up all alone in the house!
Louis Dean had spent the night in Quadville to help Amber.
That first sip of morning coffee is such a delicious pleasure!
Usually when Louis Dean and I are apart - we STILL have coffee together!
We call each other and then sit and visit over that first cup.
I called him this morning but he didn't answer.
I had coffee alone.......
Come to find out - Granddad had taken all the quads downstairs and fed them breakfast - as in bacon and eggs and fruit and toast - all before Amber even woke up!
Granted, he does not do diapers windows! He told me that he explained to the quads that Mommy would change their diapers later but right now they were going to eat!
He DID call me later and we had that SECOND cup of coffee together!
I told him I was going to the animal shelter to look at a cat I saw online.
Her name is MADDIE and she is a WHITE cat!!
Just as MAGGIE was!!!
Maggie died a few months ago and I felt God was telling me NOW was the time to find my next sweet kitty!! I had planned to wait until after the holidays but for some reason I knew I needed to meet Maddie!!!
I cleaned up the guest room in preparation for bringing her home.
The guest room used to be Amber's room and that's where all of our cats have 'lived.'
Amber had cats from the time she was 6 years old.
I set up the 12th Christmas Tree, changed the sheets, dusted and vacuumed before getting ready to go to the shelter. I didn't want to traumatize her by all that so I made sure the room was 'Kitty Ready' before I left.
I prayed on the way there that Maddie would still be available.
Yes!!!
Much like Maggie, Maddie was surrendered to the shelter because of a 'change in lifestyle.'
Maggie's previous owners had moved out of state and could not take her with them.
I think it was love at first sight! For BOTH of us!!!
Oops! The CLAWS!!! I have never had a cat with front claws.
We always had kittens before Maggie and had them declawed on the front.
Maggie had been declawed by her previous owners on all FOUR paws!
I prayed about it and did some research right there in the 'meeting room' on my phone.
After and hour or so I knew what to do!!
I adopted her!!! In Irving, if you are a senior citizen, you can adopt a senior cat for only the $5 registration fee - as opposed to the $70-100 normal adoption fee. Maddie is a senior at 7 years 1 month old,
The only pets I have ever had have been rescue animals.
From the shelter we went straight to Petsmart to get all the frills we needed to make her welcome.
Cat mats, a cat bed, two blingy collars, treats, a brush, litter, toys, and acrylic cat nail tips!!!
These are much like acrylic nails - you clip their nails and then cover the nail with a tip using nail glue. They come in pretty colors, too!!
We set up house in the guest room. I didn't do well with the nail tips but we did settle Maddie in.
Ruth Ann and Sherry came for the last art class of the 2014 and Sherry - being the sweetheart that she is - clipped all of Maddie's claws for us! Apparently they don't get around to clipping all the cats' nails in the shelter so Maddie's had grown dangerously LONG!!!
Maddie was so patient and docile while we were cutting them.
I knew she would be PERFECT for us!!
The only true 'Tuesday' part of this day was ART!!
Ruth Ann arrived and we worked on our 2014 Santas!
We will finish them in 2015 - but they are STILL our 2014 Santas!!!
I put the final glaze on the one I will take to the Fort Worth Family Chinese Christmas Tree and rehung MY wet Santa - I always paint TWO - on my den Santa wall and will enjoy him for the rest of the season.
I just went in to check on Maddie and I am happy to report she is settling right in.
So far she has only been in the guest room.
She hasn't met Lucy yet nor roamed the rest of the house.
All in good time!!!
The quads will be here in the morning to spend the day.
What do you want to bet that 'MADDIE' will be turning into 'MAGGIE?'
Thank you, Lord, for our sweet Kitty!!!
So happy you found her I am sure she will settle in Quickly ..she is pretty!
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, my. My heart melts. Y'know I love cats. And Maddie has found you. You both are so right for each other. PURRRRRecious.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you got Maddie. She seems so perfect for you. She reminds me of my sweet white cat Snowy. White cats seem to be extra sweet. I have had four cats -- two declawed and two with claws. The ones with claws really have not been destructive. You might find it's pretty easy to live with a cat with claws.
ReplyDeleteYea for you and for Maddie. Nothing better for your heart and soul then to rescue a fur-baby. I am sorry I must have missed your post on Maddie's passing, so I am sorry for your loss. But so glad your heart opened up to bring a rescue fur-kitty into your lives. Sherri
ReplyDeleteMad die will have such a lovely life with you and Louis Dean! Lucky kitty ! X
ReplyDeleteDo you cover the nails of a cat? Never heard. It would be intresting to learn about that. In Finland the nails are cut and that is about it. Either the cats like it or not. Mine does extremely well. On the other hand my dogs do not. It is always a big deal when their nails are cut.
ReplyDeleteLove your new "baby". She is so sweet. Those nail guards work quite well if she will leave them on. My dd's cat kept chewing hers off. It was hard to keep her from scratching things up but she was eventually "trained" to only sharpen her claws on "her" things. Your 2014 Santas are looking great. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteA match made in heaven! I know that she will be a wonderful addition to your family. Happy days to you!
ReplyDeleteShe looks so sweet...am sure she will fit in perfect.
ReplyDeleteBless your heart for saving Maddie! Have a great Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteHello Maddie! Welcome to a wonderful home! We hope to get to see you again. May you enjoy your new adventures and fall in love with this family just as we have! Linda, she is gorgeous! May she fill your heart and your lap with love and kindness! xxjackie
ReplyDeleteshe is beautiful
ReplyDeleteMaddie is a darling! So sweet that the two of you have your coffee together one way or another. And what a good grandpa, to give the quads such a great breakfast! I bet Amber appreciates every second she gets to sleep. :-)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new fur baby!
ReplyDeleteOh how wonderful! A very Merry Christmas for Maddie and for y'all! Hugs al around!
ReplyDeleteShe's precious and will soon fill the hole let my Maggie. I can't imagine life without pets, but over our life time we've had so many animals, dogs, cats, rats, fish, hamsters, guiena pigs, etc. loved them all, and now it's just Molly Girl!!!
ReplyDeleteI am SO happy for you!!! She is beautiful, and looks very calm and good around children. I cannot WAIT till the quads meet her!! I am a total CAT person! And you can put different colored claw covers on her for the seasons! I do NOT think people should buy expensive cats from breeders when they can save lives at the shelter...so many are waiting for a forever home and never get one. And now you have saved one of the wonderful ones! I know she was waiting just for you and it was meant to be! I am so glad to see the video, of her just walking around. I want to see MORE of that awesome basket with the duck on it, where did you get it? And I love the goose mug.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet! How funny that they make acrylic nails for kitties! I hope she settles in quickly and that she and the quads hit it off!
ReplyDeleteDeanna
Linda, That cat is a tame one. Can you get her declawed now? Hope she works out for being with the quads too. Our cat was so used to Ted and I ...she never liked little people.lol... I love that no matter what you and LD still connect for the start of the day. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteLinda, our pets touch our hearts and fill our lives with so much joy. Maddie is blest to have been adopted by you!
ReplyDeleteSmiling here! Enjoy your pretty new kitty.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you! She's beautiful. I love that you rescued her and you both are getting to know each other. I hope she continues to fit in with your family and that she will be a wonderful companion for years to come!
ReplyDeleteShe looks so much like Maggie! Fabulous present for you, Linda. Cheers from Carole's Chatter
