Making My Lists and Checking Them Twice!! *AND..... a Message for Susie!*

The rain arrived here in North Texas about 5:00 this morning.
It made for good sleeping weather!

I went back to sleep and woke up at 8:00 and just basked in the glow from the Christmas candle and the fragrance of  pine branches I have in a small pitcher of water beside our bed.
Poor Louis Dean was sitting in a doctor's office just about this time.
He had an early morning follow up appointment from his bout with pneumonia back in November.
He had blood work done this morning - which came back fine - and he is scheduled for a CAT scan at 9:30 in the morning! He says at least he doesn't have to be there at 8:00 - again.

As soon as I got that nasty kitchen cleaned up from that wild baking spree he went on last night - and downed that first cup of coffee (I actually only drink two!) - I started making my lists and checking them twice! I have a menu list, a to do list, a grocery/errand list.
My planner lives at the end of my kitchen counter and I stand here every morning taking stock of the day and every night to see what I need to carry over to the next day.
See the publications from Publix back there??? My super special friend, Dawn from Florida, sends them to me every month. I love the recipes and articles and read them as treats when I take a break in the day. Thank you, Dawn!!!

Today we spent hours and hours in preparation for tomorrow!

The Company Potatoes and Candied Carrots - cooking here - are now all dressed and in the fridge!

The Cranberry Relish is done and the old fashioned Fruit Salad - made with real whipping cream - is ready to mix in the morning. We did a TON of chopping and slicing today!!!
Praise God for food processors!!!

The corn bread is hot from the oven and cooling.
The onions and celery for the dressing have been cooked with butter and is waiting to 'dance' with the other actors to make up Dressing!!! We cook cornbread dressing with lots of sage and poultry seasonings!

Only TWO things left on my list tonight!
Bacon and Eggs - which is actually candy!
I will make this in the morning.
Also I did NOT get the entire house vacuumed and am crying Uncle and pulling a Scarlet O'Hara!
"I'll think about this TOMORROW!!!!"

Just a bit more clean up and storing all perishables in the fridge!

Louis Dean wanted to wish one of his favorite people Merry Christmas!!!
He gets such a kick out of her comments!!!
"What did SUSIE say???"
All bloggers love to read their comments but this is CRAZY!!!
We do have fun with y'all!!!

So our day of preparing is over and I am ready to go to bed!
Is it REALLY only 8:00????

  1. Your kitchen is amazing! Warm and wonderful. Where did you say you got those pictures to put on your cabinet fronts? I want to get some, plus they will cover up any bad spots. This is a sweet picture of Maddie. My granddaughter's best friend is named Maddie. I heard it is an old Southern name. My Phil does the dishes too, all the time and every day!! Aren't we lucky girls? I have my lists on pieces of paper, and also a to-do list on a big dry erase board on the kitchen wall.

  3. Love your new header. Your house is so full of smells and sounds and love. I'm a list maker, and today I delivered goodie tins of cookies, fruitcake and toffee to some of our friends we've made here at Villa Ramona. Now that's crossed off my list. Tomorrow morning I'll bake a chocolate cake with fudge frosting for our Christmas Eve dinner at our daughter Julie.

  4. Your Christmas is coming together. I love that you keep lists. I do too. What would we do without our lists? LD cracks me up. He's a good guy to do the dishes. It looks like Maddie is now a part of your family.

  5. Linda, it is so fun to see your food cooking on the stove; and I love your new header, it is gorgeous. :) I love lists, there is something so encouraging about being able to check off the things I do, a real sense of accomplishment. Your cat is adorable. :)

  6. I was so relieved to find the list you were checking twice was NOT the naughty or nice, I was afraid my name might be on the wrong one... by mistake. loved all the photos as per usual... Merry Christmas

  8. Linda, That is so sweet of you. Not to mention how sexy that LD is washing up those dishes. You all now that is the sexiest thing ever when a man does dishes. You both touched my heart doing that Christmas wish to me...can't wait to show Teddy Bear. You sure have your kitchen steaming, making foods and getting ready for the holiday. The way you spell your cat's name is how my mother spelled hers...but it was said with a long "A" sound. So it sounds like it should be spelled Maydee. That is probably the Tenn way. LOL. I read Ginny's comment...she says it's a southern name. :):) We are to have some snow...hope it's not much...we all have to travel to Lizzy's (Emma's) for dinner and gift exchange. So ready for the fun. Merry Christmas to you and LD. I want to wish both of your families the best for Christmas . Love you guys, Susie
