Time is a precious thing. It doesn't LAST very long!
I think about this when I spend TIME with my mother.
It used to be EVERY Friday but now it is every so often on a Friday!
I try and capture her expressions.
She has one of the most positive attitudes of anyone I know!
She gets excited over little things. And big things!
This past Friday we ate lunch at a place she remembers from days gone by.
I couldn't understand exactly what she was telling me but I THINK it was that she came to this area on a regular basis in times past.
Red Hot and Blue is the restaurant and I don't know if she meant she knew the place or the shopping center. Doesn't matter. We had a good time and then drove around the shopping area to see what else was there. BINGO!
Just what Mother wanted!! She had - IN HER PURSE! -
a nearly empty bottle of Clinque Happy Heart perfume!
She now has a brand new bottle!
We drove on down a little ways and she got so excited to see a DSW shoe store!
She now has a comfy pair of slippers.
Mother was very happy with her purchases!!!
I remind myself NOT to take our time together for granted.
At 87 (I think!) she is not as energetic as she once was.
See the blue Handicapped Parking thing?
She loves not having to walk so far to go in some place.
Mother has to hold on to me now to steady her.
We also request a table or booth close to the entrance and not clear across the restaurant!
There is something special about the very young and the elderly.
Babies don't STAY babies for long and our years are numbered - especially as we reach the 80's and 90's.
Unless you are Louis Dean!
He says he is going to live to be 115!
He may do it!
I am also reminded how short a time babies are babies!
This is little Trystan Lee. She is the only one of the quads who has a birthmark.
Look how BIG she is getting!!!
Still not much over 4 pounds but a LOT bigger than 2 lb 12 oz at birth.
She is up to 8 bottle feeds per 24 hours and is well on the way to going home -
SOON!!! The others will not be far behind.
They are 5 weeks 3 days old.
Since this picture was stolen off of posted on Facebook - they have removed all the monitors and lines except the feeding tube. They keep that in until they can determine she is consistently gaining weight.
I can't wait to get down there! I leave next week to spend some time helping Amber and taking an infant CPR class. I may actually BE THERE when the first quad comes home!
These days are flying by and I just want to grasp them and hold on to them a little bit longer - my mother and these babies - but I can't.
So I will treasure these times both now and in my mind later on.
No one can.
Babies Don't Keep
I hope my children will look back on today
And see a mother ( or GRANDMA!) who had time to play.
There will be years for cleaning and cooking
But children grow up while we're not looking.
Dusting and scrubbing can wait 'till tomorrow
For babies grow fast we learn to our sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs and dust go to sleep
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.

Fantastic post. I can see where some of your wonderful positivity comes from!
ReplyDeleteYour mom is so cute with her shoes and her parking pass. So LD is going to live to be 115, huh? I don't know if he'll actually make it because I won't be around to find out. Ha, ha. Good for him. The quads are huge compared to when they were born. Won't be long now till they come home. I wonder which one or ones will be first.
ReplyDeleteA lovely reminder to cherish all our relationships, and especially the ones where Time has such a big influence.
ReplyDeletePrecious post today, Dear One!
ReplyDeleteLeafing through my new "Mary Jane's Farm" magazine, I though of you!
So I just posted this post. :-)
Gentle hugs,
"Auntie"
love the babies don't keep at the end, so true and neither do mothers. my mother was a lot like yours, she loved any and everything, all things made her happy, she was happy riding in a car, happy sitting in grass, happy shopping or visiting. anything and everything made her happy. she never grumped or growled or said mean things. she died at age 63, in 1990. i loved shopping for her because a simple shell sent her into happy joy. enjoy your babies
ReplyDeleteYour Mother is so neat!

People talk about the 'sandwich generation' as though it is a burden. They don't know about the grace, the love, the fun, the thankfulness we get from being there.
ReplyDeleteYour mom is so cute! I love the fact that y'all go to the beauty shop together and play Bingo. You will treasure those memories one day. You are so right about how time is fleeting with babies and the elderly. Maybe that's why they relate to each other so well. Have you ever noticed that? Glad that everyone is doing well.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem- I'm stealing it to hang on my wall. So very true!
ReplyDeleteYour so right, time sure doesn't wait for us. Cherish that beautiful momma of yours every chance you get. So glad you all got some time in and that she got some goodies while out shopping.
Your grands are doing so well. They are tough just like their grandma and momma :)
Happy Sunday Friend!
Linda, I loved the little poem at the end. :):) You are blessed to still have your mom, to hug and tell her how much she means to you. Many of us would love to do that just once more"hug our moms and tell them we love them." Smiles, Susie
