I woke up one morning earlier in the week with this song on my mind.
Over the years, John Denver's music has reflected much of what I was feeling about life.
Back in a couple of lifetimes ago - I would start singing this as....
Some days are diamonds and some days are just hard rocks!
I've felt this way for several days but I am wise enough to know that feelings never last.
So, I am embracing mine and will be glad when they move on.....
Saturday night Sherry was dropped off by her niece as Sherry's car broke down when she was in the DFW area for a family gathering. The car was towed to the niece's home and Sherry spent the night here as Dean was back at the ranch, but their truck was also broken down, and our truck is there but it's not running either.
Sherry went in to visit Louis Dean in his music room and noticed blood all over his floor.
She asked him, "Does Linda know??"
I did know that he had stepped on a piece of glass and I had put ointment and a Band-Aid on the cut, but I did not know it had started bleeding again. This cut was right in the middle of the meaty part of his foot, and he could feel the pain!
I had an appointment with my urologist on Monday and it was good to see both Dr. Bloom and his associate....the doctor always comes in to visit for a minute or two.
I baked cheesecake squares and took a tray to them - it's a tradition to bake something every year for my annual visit.
It appears I may have a UTI for the first time in well over a year.
Tuesday was supposed to be Louis Dean's final follow up appointment for his toe injury...
however he stepped on a jagged piece of glass over the weekend and that presented a more serious concern.
Still wearing the surgical shoe!!
Since I missed connecting up with Brenda, I took Louis Dean with me to two thrift stores and he waited for me in the car. The doctor told him to stay off his foot as much as possible.
I didn't find a lot but I love the things I found.
Four brand new candles - all extra nice ones.
The Rae Dunn olive oil dispenser and I never pass a garland up.
The butterfly is diamond art and it is beautiful.
We picked up prescriptions at Walgreens....seems we do that every other day!
Wednesday I had an appointment for my annual eye exam and showed up only to realize I need to schedule cataract surgery and get that done before having my eyes tested!
What was I thinking? I guess I wasn't but I had taken them some baked goodies and said I would be back later in the summer!
( I now have cataract surgery scheduled for June first at 8:00 in the MORNING!!)
I was feeling a little blue on my way home and decided to stop at a thrift store on the south side of town and I did find some treasures that cheered me right up.
I'll share those soon.....
Louis Dean was instructed to keep the foot bandaged and DRY but when I woke up Thursday morning he had taken all the bandaging off and his foot was dripping blood on the floor.
He said it had got wet! Like how did THAT happen?
I cleaned it up and rebandaged it and we were BACK at the doctor's office again that afternoon.
He just put together that these were two separate injuries - not just one.
The foot is still infected and he's still on antibiotics.
The doctor told him this is the kind of infection that can ger really BAD really QUICK!
Our friends, Joel and Terre, moved to Texas a year ago this month and we met up with them for dinner at Mexican Sugar along with Ilene. She drove us and I was able to have a margarita!
First one I've had in ages!
The food ws good and all five of us had a great time - even though it was really LOUD!
It's our tradition to go to Braums after dinner and it was much quieter there.
We all decided it would be fun to have a monthly dinner date. This month was in Irving and next month will be in Cleburne where their new home is.
I was so excited to see tham that I totally forgot to take pics!!
This pic is from our visit in 2022....
We met them at their hotel and went out to dinner.....
And then to Braums!
Louis Dean punched his straw through the Styrofoam cup and made a big mess.
We still laugh about it!
Today has been 'uneventful' and I greatly appreciate that.
I am now on a strong antibiotic since the culture came back positive for UTI.
I'll close tonight's journal entry with this pretty pic of Samanthat!
She and Tabitha are loving going outside - backyard - for awhile most days.

I love you, my friend!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your pictures and your post. I look forward to them always.
I hope the UTI is clearing up. They are horrible!
Sending you and LD best wishes, better health, and always, our love---and best of luck on your cataract surgery. I'll be praying for you!
OH Linda, may God continue to give you the strength you need to deal with everything that is going on. I'm glad you had some fun times with friends and also managed to stop in at a couple of thrift stores, as that seems to relax you! Regarding the UTI, stress will definitely bring them on. However, my doctor told me to take 1000 mg. of vitamin C every day and it will help keep enough acid in your urine so that it will not form UTI's. Ever since I started doing that faithfully, I have not had another one! And I was getting them rather often. So, you may want to ask your Dr. about that first, but it definitely has worked for me. Oh, you have cataract surgery coming up! I will be praying for you. Nowadays that is pretty much a breeze, but still it is a concern, especially when you are a caregiver. So I pray everything will go smoothly and that you will have someone to be with you that day. I will be keeping you and LD in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteThat is a pretty picture of Tabitha. Sorry to hear about the UTI hope you get that cleared up quickly. I'm also hoping you can get LD to be more careful with his food. Wouldn't want that infection getting worse than it is.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to get out with friends and have a good time.
I hope you both get well quickly! Glad you had some good times with friends.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda! I always love your positive take on the challenges of life. UTIs are no fun. I hope yours clears up soon, and also that LD's foot heals up as it should. You are such a great example to me of looking for the good in life. Have a great weekend. See you again soon!
ReplyDeleteOh my !!! Linda, I am praying for you end especially right now. Let's get back to the days of diamonds and eliminate the hard rocks ...
ReplyDeleteI' am so sorry that there are so many issues for LD, you, your truck and everything in between. Praying for you this day and for strength , peace, and renewed energy.
Love you
Sue
Testing testing. Because I leave you comments all the time and they won't post
ReplyDeleteOK, I'll try. . How is Louis Dean's foot??? 😊 hope it's healing. As you've found out-- caretaking for a loved one is a full time job. How are you doing on the antibiotics? Are you feeling better?-- I sure hope so. Thank you for the condolences you commented, yes-- THREE big losses, all within weeks of each other, so many tears. I had my cataract surgery too, a few years back--- they had me be there like 7 am as well-- ha ha 😆. I'm glad mine is done, you will be too 😊. I LOVED John Denver!---went to his concert, had 2cd row floor seats--- it was a great concert!! 🎤 🎸 🎶, I still remember all the songs and the lyrics. Big HUGS!! Now I press " publish " and see if it works!!
ReplyDeleteOh dear Linda....so many things going on for you and LD. My heart breaks for you and yet you are the one who brightens our days with your love of LD, your love of the Lord and your precious attitude no matter what comes next. Your thrift finds always make me smile...you just have a way of seeing things others don't. Will be praying for all the problems that need fixing. btw love John Denver and like Sue mentioned. Lets stick to diamonds and leave the hard rocks. Love and Hugs
ReplyDeletePraying for both of you. It seems in life when it rains it pours. At least I have found that true. Hope you both are feeling better very soon. Jan Waco
ReplyDeleteI love John Denver! Annie's Song is my favorite. I know you're not asking for medical advice, but I have had some rough UTIs, and now as soon as I get a twinge, I take D-Mannose, it's like cranberry but concentrated. It helps. Louis Dean and his foot, oh no! I hope he heals up soon. Good luck with the cataract surgery too! I'm glad you guys got to go out with friends, that's so special. :)
ReplyDeleteI am so glad the doctor is keeping a close eye on Louis Dean's foot! Can't wait to see your other thrifting purchases. Another U.T.I.! I used to get them every month for many years, finally had to go to a large hospital to find the cause. You have sure had your share!
ReplyDeleteI had totally forgotten this song. Have not had a diamond day in a long time and all I can say Is OH MY! I Feel your Strees hugs and love and prayers for the foot to heal without infection
ReplyDeleteLinda, you have lots of friends both in your life and here in blog land. Sorry to read about the issues that Louis Dean is having with his feet and hope the antibiotics work for him and for you as well.
ReplyDeleteYou are truly dealing with a lot right now. Keeping you and LD in my prayers. Some days can be a bit overwhelming as a care taker, but thankfully, we have God we can always lean on. Wishing you a wonderful start to a week that will bring you much joy and rest.
ReplyDeleteYou both have certainly had a lot going on in your lives right now! I hope the toe heals soon and you have gotten your UTI taken care of too - that is very important. I get them from time to time as well.
ReplyDeleteWe are on our way back visiting family in Michigan. My mom and her aunt are just three years apart and are like sisters. It’s good to be with friends or family we love!
